ONLINE EXERCISES

1. You are going on a three-day business trip for your company to

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. You have up to $300 a day to spend on
lodging and food. If you do not spend the money, you save money
for your company; you do not get to keep the unspent money. You
will check in on October 18 and check out on October 21. Choose
the hotel where you would stay; what Web site would you use to
pick the hotel? What did your search process involve? How many
Web sites did you use to make your selection? What criteria did you
make in choosing the hotel? (Note: look up the hotel rates, but
please do not make an actual reservation.)

For the hotel, I chose the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh because its
price rates affordable and budget friendly for those tourists like me who is
looking for a comfortable and budget friendly. Also, it has a perfect 5-star
rates from their guests, but the only negative comment is the restaurants is
unavailable for the customers and they cannot purchase food or drinks
nevertheless, the accommodation is good and excellent even their
employees are friendly and accommodating.

The tools that I used to seek this information are the booking.com
wherein I found that there are a lot of hotels in the Pittsburgh, but this hotel
has the cheapest offer, so I chose it and I go to their website to look for the
other information such as reviews and services.

EXPERIENTIAL EXERCISES

1. Conduct a price comparison of several hotels or restaurants in the

same class. What price differences did you find? Do you feel the
companies that had the higher prices could justify those higher
prices by offering additional features or a higher-quality product?

First, the following restaurants and hotels that I am going to list

down is the one I have experienced.

Jollibee – Jollibee is famous for its crispy and juicy chicken, and it
influences the standard of Filipino people when it comes to fried
chicken, while I scan through their menu board, I notice that some of
their products where priced as a bundle and you can also purchase it in
a la carte. They come in a lot of ideas to persuade a lot more
customers especially kids so they develop the jolly kids’ meal it has a
spaghetti and chicken with a toy, and you can choose in a whole
variety of collection of the theme.

Mang Inasal – This restaurant is also famous for serving chicken,
but the difference is, they served it in grilled not oil fry. Their pricing
strategy is through psychological pricing. They do not have a bundle
pricing probably because they think that it would affect the income and
revenue of the business.

McDonald’s – This is also popular among the kids and the

teenagers who likes to eat fried food that includes, French fries,
burgers, fried chicken and many more. They also offer kiddie meal like
Jollibee, but they priced it according to the structure and the meals
that is included to the bundles. Their pricing is based on buyers’
reactions and competitors’ reaction to price change.

Kuya J’s Restaurant – Unlike any ither restaurants I have visited

this is the one I can say that I like the most because it has a wide
variety of food choices, and they also offer ala carte meal and family
bundle to make sure that they are providing great service and quality
products for their consumers. Their pricing strategy is Product Bundle
Marketing and the Volume Discounts.

SITUATIONAL EXERCISES

1. You just have been hired as the dining room manager at a local
hotel. The manager asks you to evaluate the menu prices to see if
they need to be adjusted. How would you go about this task?

Consumers’ perceptions of price bundles vary depending on the traits of the

market segments. Which customer segment do you think is the most
sensitive to pricing strategies?
- If I were the manager of the said establishment, I will check the
prices of each dish if it is just the right amount for that or
overpriced, when doing menu prices, you must consider a lot of
things like the ingredients, where did you get your ingredients from,
is it imported or not? Is it worth to be in the menu, was it satisfying
to the taste of the guest? The consumers opinions and perceptions
to your products and services is a great tool to expand, improve and
innovate some of your products.
In my own words, the most sensitive to the pricing strategies is
the Millennials and Gen Z because a lot of them were
experienced and has established a good name to the public since
they build their business, with this, a lot of the products in the

market were in inspected thoroughly. They have a lot of
considerations when it comes to buying and choosing products.
