Aim: To perform T test for independent samples in excel.

Question: Assume that someone wants to check the grumblings that GPAs in Business
schools are about 0.25 lower than in the College of Arts & Science.

Null Hypothesis: GPA in the Business School’s about 0.25 lower than those in the College
of Arts and Science.

Alternate Hypothesis: GPA in the Business School is about 0.25 more than those in the
College of Arts and Science.

Steps:
Step-1 Enter the data according to the question.
Step-2 Click on Data tab and under analysis group, click on Data Analysis and a Data
Analysis box will appear.

Step-3 In Data Analysis box under Analysis Tools select t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming
Unequal Variances and t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming Unequal Variances box will appear.

Step-4 Select the range for variable 1 and 2.

Step-5 Check mark labels.

Step-6 Select alpha value.

Step-7 Click on OK.

Rejection Region:
For the hypothesis study, we have taken α= 0.05, so, reject Ho if t < -2.2353 and t >
2.2353.
Test Statistics: t= -5.5573
P-value: - P-value= 2.1659
Decision: t= -5.5573, i.e., t < -2.2353, which implies we will reject the null hypothesis.
It lies in the critical region and we will reject the null hypothesis.
GPA in the Business School is about 0.25 more than those in the College of Arts and
Science.
