Sketch character of john Conway?

Joan Conway plays a significant role in the play “fail not our feast”. The play is
baised on the reunion of the three friends known to one another since their
school days. The main characters are joan Conway, matilda walters, and nora
blake .
Joan Conway is a member of parliament enjoying the reputation of a public
figure. She has a maid called manson to help her in the household affairs. From
the play we understand that the gettogather is held at joan conways drawing
room. Joan is a very good host and she makes the best possible arrangements
as she plans to serve special Spanish wine therry to her friends. From the
attitude of peggy who is happily singing the jewel song we understand that
food is cooked elaborately for the evening. She personally supervises the
arrangements for the evening. She instructs manson to lead matilda to the
drawing room when she comes in.
Joan is very compassionate when it comes to her friends. This is evident when
she tells mason not to disclose about nora blake to matilda when she arrives
she wants to tell her about nora at the right time. In the beginning of the play
we see that joan expresses a lot of contempt for nora as she tells matilda that
she likes nora as a friend but hates the criminal inside her. Every time matilda
expressed her desire to help nora when she comes out of jail, joan preffered to
remain silent and did not commit to help nora. Thou she enjoyed very good
reputation and status in society , she always remained humbled. She was
equally happy when mattilda informs her that she is the headmistress of
st.margaret’s school which enjoys a great reputation and the three friends did
their schooling. She is not competing with her friends matilda for power and
status.
Joan proves to be a true friends and this is proved when nora comes to her
house like an uninvited guest. All her hatered and hostility towards nora
changes into compassion for her friend. Thou she shocked to see nora she
offers her wine and also instruts her maid mason to lay table for the three.
Whe matilda becomes status consious and does not want to lose her position
under any circumstances and forces nora to leave the place and go back to the
prison; joan tries to commence matilda that since nora has already come they
can forget everything and spread the evening comfortably together.
Joan’s character is a complete contrast to that of matilda. throughout the play
her character is depicted as one who is humbled and compassionate. This is
evident when matilda calls the police so that nora is arrested, it is joan who
asks matilda to leave her house and also give assurance to nora that she will
take care of the consequences.
