I. BACKGROUND OF THE CASE

The tourism industry is one of the industries that has been most impacted by the covid 19
pandemic. According to the World Tourism Organization, the closure of borders, airports and
hotels, as well as limits on mass gatherings, land travel and related services, has put 100 to 120
million jobs at danger around the world.

The Department of Tourism is working on a recovery plan for the year 2022, with the ultimate
goal of creating a sustainable, resilient and inclusive Philippine Tourism industry. During that
discussion DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo- Puyat recommended the 2022 budget. They
released a budget of PHP 3.52 Billion to support the goals and activities, including PHP 63.71
million allocated for Intramuros administration and PHP 203.79 million for the National Parks
Development Committee. Secretary Bernadette Romulo- Puyat mentioned that after the
Philippines transport system has stabilized they would like to expand the product they offer and
develop other green tourist lanes that maybe used by domestic tourism. The DOT also updates its
Tourism Response and Recovery Plan, with the primary goal of reducing the impact of pandemic
on the tourism business. It also allows the tourism industry to continue afloat despite the
constraints and obstacles posed by the year 2020 and 2021. Thanks to the support of lawmakers
and swift budget proceedings. They believe that, despite the industry downtime, they will be able
to reskill, up skill and retool tourism stakeholders, allowing the Department of Tourism to keep
on top of ever-changing tourism trends and preference.

II. ISSUES AND CONCERNS TACKELED

The department of Tourism is drafting a recovery strategy, which is causing concerns. Because
we are all aware of how the pandemic will have a significant impact on the sector, there are
numerous urgent responses and plans in place for those people and companies that will be
affected. When it comes to budgeting, one of the challenges is also an issue. Given that a budget
has been suggested, it is critical to prepare it equally because we all know how vital the tourism
industry is to our country’s economy. Finally our sector will not be able to survive without the
efforts of tourism businesses and the people who work for them. The study also involves
assuring employment security and the safety employees, businesses, visitors and communities.

III. PROBLEMS

 Will the budget proposal be patient enough?

 What products options could be offered when the travel setup is not yet stable?
 The pandemic’s different effects on the tourism industry.
 A drop in demand in both domestic and international markets.
 During the crisis, the Gross Domestic Product fell.

IV. COURSE OF ACTION

 With the final goal of sustainable, resilient and inclusive Philippine Tourism Industry, a
recovery plan has been prepared.
 A budget is proposed to fund the organization aims and programs.
 Increasing product offers and green tourism lanes for domestic visitors.
 Promoting tourism that is safe, entertaining and competitive.
 Assisting departments and stakeholders in guaranteeing job security and the safety of
employees, visitors and entities.

 Pay special attention to and prioritize those who are most affected by the pandemic.
 Improving governance and management of destination.
 Protection of jobs in tourism businesses.
 Improving services.
 Preparation and concrete plans.

VI. LESSON LEARNED

This report is really helpful to be mindful and to know and be part of the plan. The information
from this is greatly a contributor of the economy so it is important to talk about it. It is a really
hard challenge to the Department of Tourism to fight for this but the eagerness to rise again is
more important. They have plans and have a budgeting for improving and to raise again our
tourism industry. I see how tourism professional is dedicated to their job in able to provide a
better service and ensuring the safety of everyone around them. I am also glad that despite of the
challenges and downtimes of the tourism industry, they always found things to keep going.
