ASSESSMENT 1 template – you MUST use this for your essay

INTRODUCTION

Here you need to give:

 A brief introduction to your University journey so far

(@150 words)

 A summary of the key things you have learnt so far about yourself at University

(@200 words)

MAIN BODY

Here you need to give:

 Your personal reflections on the key audit material i.e questionnaires/handouts you have
completed so far; what have you learnt from these about your employability skills (i.e. about
your learning style, your motivations, your personality, your key skills?) What theory helps to
explain this? How can you use your reading to support/explain further?

(@250 words – remember you need to include discussion on at least 6 questionnaires/handouts,


which you will attach at the end, in the Appendices. Don’t describe the questionnaires, reflect on what
it means to you in terms of your strengths and weakness i.e. the S and W on your SWOT)

 A discussion about your reflections in relation to the employability skills on your SWOT and
how this led to your PDP – add in theory here too. (There should be clear connections
between the results of your questionnaires/handouts used in class, your SWOT and your PDP
which are attached as supporting evidence in the Appendices, at the end of your essay)

(@300 words – you do not need to describe your SWOT, as this is in the Appendices. Just
summarise here how you determined what went into your SWOT and how you narrowed this down to
the 3 key employability areas then made it onto your PDP

A discussion of actions to be taken (listed on your PDP) in relation to your 3 key employability skills
and your feelings about these (you need at least 5 actions per skill). Ensure you discuss how realistic
are these? How likely are they to happen and why?

(@300 words – again, you do not need to describe your PDP actions, as your PDP is shown in the
Appendices. Instead, discuss why some actions are going to be done earlier than others, why some
may be more of a priority than others and why etc.)

 Discuss any actions you have taken so far (perhaps linked to what you have done in class?)
including a review of your BRONZE (WEEA) award score and overall reflections on your
learning so far, with examples

(@150 words) – this is a short section as you will have opportunities to discuss your actions in
assessment 2 but this is an opportunity to share any reflections on your learning/PDP actions so far
and on your BRONZE on-line test.

CONCLUSION

Here you need to give:

 Thoughts for the rest of this semester; key challenges/concerns/actions to be taken

(@450 words – this is where you can summarise the key points made in your essay and consider any
opportunities and threats (the O and the T from your SWOT) that might help and hinder you making
progress on your PDP.)

 Harvard Reference list (of all sources referred to in your essay) – at least 10 needed

APPENDICES

Remember you need to include:

 All supporting audit material i.e. at least 6 questionnaires, handouts etc used in class
 Your detailed SWOT analysis
 Your detailed PDP with at least 3 employability skills listed, with 5 actions listed per skill
 A copy of your BRONZE (WEEA) award score

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Your essay and all your assessment evidence etc must be collated into one word document only, so
the Appendices will need to be cut and pasted here, at the end of this document.
