Analysis on Language Biodata Form

1. Which languages you identified in your answers are considered dominant: local or national
languages?
- Based on my answers above, the language I consider dominant is the national language which is
Tagalog/Filipino. It is because I was able to translate the terms from the global language into our
national language compared to our local language which is Tausug. It was due to the unavailability
of some direct translation of some global terms into our local terminology.

2. Do you have troubles classifying which are languages and which are dialects or vernaculars?
- Yes, I have. It just goes to show that I haven’t really mastered my local language after how many
years of using it.

3. What is the difference between language learning from that of language acquisition?
- In my own opinion, Language learning and Language acquisition have their similarities which is
learning to use a language. Their differences on the flip side are Language learning is a process in
which we can learn the basics of a certain language, it's like examining only the tip of the iceberg.
Language acquisition on the other hand in going in depth beyond the tip of the iceberg and
examining its composition and learning the use and be able to understand and converse with it.

4. Are the skills that you can perform using your first language more complex than those skills that you
can perform using the second language?
- The skills I can perform with my first language are not that complex compared to my second
language, that is because I really haven’t been able to maximize my capabilities in using my first
language because of my lack of self-confidence. My second language on the other hand is a bit
improved since I was able to practice writing basic speech which was one of our requirements in
school.

5. What are your difficulties in using/learning the second language?

- My difficulties in using and/or learning my second language is that some of the terms in my
second language have no direct translation to my local language which becomes a hinder for me
since some of my friends don’t understand my second language and I always end up translating it
to them. However, with a bit of practice and familiarizing certain terms I am confident that I will be
able to do a better job in translating terms for my friends.
