1. What is Security?

 Defined as the state or quality of being secured, freedom from fear or danger,
assurance or certainty. To secure is to make safe or be protected. Any measures taken
to keep an individual or group from dangers or hazards that may cause harm, injury,
loss of life, and or loss or damage to property. its roles are to prevent or stop the
hazards.

2. Discuss the three aspects of Security

 Physical Security - describes measures that prevent or deter attackers from accessing
a facility, resource, or information stored on physical media. It can be as simple as a
locked door or as elaborated as multiple layers of armed guard posts.
 Personnel Security - this is as important as physical security. Personnel Security starts
even before the hiring of an employee and remains to be maintained for as long as the
person is employed. Its purpose is to ensure that a firm hires those best suited to assist
the firm in achieving its goals and objectives and once hired assist in providing
necessary security to the work force while carrying out their functions.
 Document and Information Security - this involves the protection of documents and
classified papers from loss, access by unauthorized persons, damage, theft and
compromise through disclosure. Classified documents need special handling. Lack of
indoctrination and orientation among the personal handling them can result in the
leakage, loss, theft and unauthorized disclosure of the documents.

3. What is Protective Security?

 Protective Security – can be defined as those measures taken by an installation or


unit to protect itself against sabotage, espionage or subversion and at the same time
provide freedom of action in order to provide installation of the unit with the
necessary flexibility to accomplish its mission.

4. What are the aspects of Protective Security?

 Physical Security - measures taken to prevent physical access or entry to an


installation.
 Personnel Security - measures taken to ensure that only authorized personnel
have access to classified documents or information.

5. What is a Barrier?

 Can be defined as any structure or physical device capable of restricting,


deterring, delaying, illegal access to an installation.
6. What are the types of Barriers?

 Human
 Animal

 Energy/Electrical/Electronic
 Structural

7. What are the three lines of Physical Defense?

 FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE – Perimeter barrier/fences - a medium or structure


which defines the physical limits of an installation or area to restrict or impede access
thereto.
 SECOND LINE OF DEFENSE – Doors, floors, windows, walls, roofs and grills.
 THIRD LINE OF DEFENSE – Storage system like steel cabinets, safes, vaults and
interior files
