Staff Development- Student Notes

Notes from Meeting with Taylor, Aimee and Haley

Idea other then the newsletter - maybe create a website or a blog for students to visit

Workshop Ideas- ways to move up the ladder

Active shooter drills/safety training

Maybe even see if it's possible to shadow others, like being to know what one staff member
does throughout the day, like shadow for an hour or so

How to be workshops - interview skills, manage money

Speakers- the career center, maybe joyal ( financial aid), library and rec center classes

Expanding knowledge/skill set ( professional development)

Idea: weekly or monthly staff meeting for students in order for them to feel connected with their
student position

Maybe have some socials like the ice cream social

Advertise about career fairs or require training for interpersonal skills!

Easier for students when its already built in for work

Find ways to show appreciation to our student employees

Student employee of the month


- Would be recommended by boss
- Supervisor would nominate

Getting to know others


-ropes course “retreat”
- everyone attend a event together
Group me or discord ( sub groups within)

Maybe have student supervision positions for students to be able to move up within their roles

Learn more about communication skills, teamwork and leadership

Want to learn about what the fresno state police do

Maybe even have a headshot workshop for student employees or event a linkedin workshop for
them to learn more

Newsletter- beneficial for everyone

Maybe a newsletter in a physical form

Workshops- how to properly write an email ( professional), resume, cover letter, how to handle
phone calls, how to handle difficult people

Areas on campus speakers- CCGC, career development, health center

Mental Health Topics- how to deal with stress

Professional Development- a way of thinking in terms of being more than just a student, but a
student employee, improvements for students/staff to understand their responsibilities

Learning new skills/outcomes of learning them

The balance between being a student/employee

A way to be able to see everybody and connect with each other

Group me or maybe even a facebook group- post the news letter into the group ( another way to
see it)

How to become career ready- how the skills we are learning transferable for a resume
- Held accountable, feel like they are apart of the team

Training Ideas- know what all the areas do and how to use the phone function
- How to communicate with others and the team
