PEPSI SCREENING 2
Biography
For my Pepsi Screening I have chosen an 8 year old boy named Angel. Angel is in 3rd
grade, he absolutely loves going to school and is always talking about how excited he is to start
4th grade. Angel attends C.P Squires Elementary School, C.P is part of the Clark County School
District (CCSD). He is Hispanic/Latino and lives with both his parents who are married, and 3
He loves playing sports, his favorite sports are soccer and basketball. He says that when
electric scooter at home for reading over 700 minutes! He uses the electric scooter almost all day
after school. His family is really proud of him for being so studious.
Angel is a really good student, very respectful towards his teacher and his classmates. He
is amazing in math and social studies, but he does struggle with writing. Since he is the youngest
his siblings help him alot with school work when he has a hard time understanding a concept,
and if his parents understand his homework then they also help him out. His family is very
Angel is a social butterfly. He gets along with everyone no matter their age. His
personality is very outgoing and he brightens up any room that he walks into. He loves to help
out his classmates when they are having a hard time, loves to help his teacher in anything he can,
and says his favorite thing is helping his dad build things. Angel is a very lovely person with
such a genuine heart, I'm sure he will accomplish many great things in the future.

Physical Development
Children start experiencing physical changes at Angel’s age, 8. He is a very active boy
who loves to play in his front yard with his electric scooter, which he won from reading more
than 700 minute. He plays with it for at least an hour. “Children at this stage are becoming more
involved in organized sports, but nothing surpasses outdoor exercise and playground time in
Angel has two dogs, A pitbull named Kora and a poodle named Robin. They love to play
with Angel and that helps Angel with his daily exercise. Angel plays fetch with them, catch the
ball, and usually just runs with them. He likes to see who can catch up to him first. But this is
honestly every other day. He spends a lot of his days in his room playing video games. “Don’t
allow a TV in your child’s bedroom, and limit time for TV, computers and video games to one to
two hours per day.” His mother doesn’t like this and tells him it is important for him to be active
because he is a little boy who is still developing. Angel tells her that he gets bored playing
outside because he has no one to play with since his siblings are busy with college and work, and
he only has one friend in his neighborhood. He is also from a generation where technology is
used for almost everything, it is nearly impossible for him to not be surrounded by technology.
So apart from school, he is only active at home two times out of the week.

Emotional Development
and religion play a big role in Angel’s emotional development. Social and Emotional
development depend on the experiences provided by schools and families, but they also follow
predictable patterns (Slavin 54). I believe Angel goes to a great school that has a great
environment. When he comes back from school he always talks about what an amazing day he
had and how he can’t wait to go back. He speaks highly of his teachers, and his classmates as
well. Angel is doing great in his Emotional development. He gets good grades in school which
also helps him with his development. It helps him be confident and know that he can learn
anything and ask for help if he ever needs it. Students who perform poorly in elementary school
are at risk for developing poor academic self-concepts and subsequent poor performance in
upper elementary and secondary school (Guay, Marsh, & Boivin, 2003) (Slavin 56).
Angel has a good connection with everyone around him and is able to communicate
easily with everyone, especially with his classmates. Children who are disliked by their peers
tend to be highly aggressive and to lack prosocial and conflict resolution skills (Slavin 58).
Angel is sweet and loves to bring little things to school for his peers to show how much he
appreciates them, he says he doesn’t like when kids feel left out, that shows a lot about him. I
Philosophical Development
Children learn as they go, their minds open up to new knowledge everyday whether it is
good knowledge or bad knowledge. A change in the family, such as a divorce or loss of a job,
not only influences the child directly, but may also cause changes in the child’s neighborhood,
school, place of worship, and friends (Slavin 36). Angel has not gone through any drastic
changes in his life that have affected his philosophical Development. His influences at home are
his family, he has great people who genuinely care for him. He learns good things from them and
he incorporates that to his everyday life. Whenever it is a holiday he makes sure to take
something special to his teacher and classmates, his life right now is full of love. He goes to
church with his parents and siblings every sunday, he is old enough to comprehend words but
still doesn't comprehend everything that is being told to him but whatever he learns in there, it is
pure and lovely. Nothing bad has ever come out of his mouth. No one is perfect but he is such a
constantly changing, and that the child him- or herself has an influence on many of them,
especially the family (Slavin 36). Although there may not be a lot of changes at home, there
might be some at school, so Angel adapts to changes little by little. Everything that surrounds a
child influences them, any little thing can make a big change in their life. I believe angel is doing
good with his philosophical development, I see the way he accepts change anywhere he goes.

Social Development
The social network grows from an intimate relationship with parents or other guardians to
include other family members, non related adults, and peers. (Slavin 54). Children little by little
develop their personality, when they start school they are having to interact with other kids their
age and with a teacher who is a complete stranger to them. Angel is very vocal, he says what he
is feeling in the moment and is also very opinionated. When he sees something he doesn’t like or
something that doesn’t feel right, he makes sure to let anyone who is around him know. He
knows what he likes and he knows what he doesn't. He has many friends at school and even
plays with them through video games. Angel attends an after school program, the After School
All Stars program (ASAS). This is a 2 hour program that helps students in many ways. They also
offer sports and cooking programs, Angel is very social all day in school. Peer play allows
children to interact with other individuals whose level of development is similar to their own
(Slavin 54).
Angel has great social skills and while observing him I could see he picks up on many
things other people do. If he sees someone talking who expresses themselves with hand motions,
he incorporates that into his skills as well. I believe his social skills are developing will and he is
doing awesome in this area. Angel is a very fast learner, he is very intelligent.

Intellectual Development
learning are very important. Theories that relate to processes that go on within the minds of
learners, and ways of helping students use their minds more effectively to learn, remember, and
use knowledge and skills (Slavin 127). Sensory Register is information held in for only a short
amount of time. Angel tries to hold a lot of information in his mind but only leaves it there for a
few minutes. He is very forgetful of the information he learns because he has a hard time
focusing. He could be listening to someone and at that same moment also be listening to dogs
barking at a house nearby, to the airplane above him, and to his friends who are chit chatting on
the other side. It is important for him to practice paying attention to information. But it is also
important for him and the other person to take it slowly so he can slowly absorb the information
He is graded on listening at school. He has a low score because like I stated before, he is
not very good at paying attention. Teachers can help him better himself in this area of
development. Some teachers raise or lower their voices to signal that they are about to impart
critical information, others use gestures, repetition, or body position to communicate the same
message (Slavin 130). Angel needs help with Intellectual Development, but it is normal for kids
