3. Materials/Equipment:
- Pencils
- Construction paper
- Markers
- Crayons
- Popsicle sticks
- Pipe straws
- Felt
- Glue
4. Teaching:
A. Plan for reading the book
- Carpet circle time to read the book aloud to the children
- Discuss the book’s illustrations, characters, and vendors
- Ask students what they found interesting about the book
- Ask students which vendor they found the most interesting
- Encourage and allow 5 minutes for students to ask any questions or to share any of their
experiences
- Ask students to go back to their seats to prepare for the activity
5. Closure:
- Students will present which vendor they are and their materials
- Students will leave their work at their desk for grading
- Student’s ticket out the door will be a question on what they learned from the Cuban
street culture.
- Students will be asked what spanish words they learned and the different types of vendors
from the book
- Tell students that we will be continuing to learn about other multicultural foods and
spanish vocabulary throughout the week.
