- 3.PK.5: Listen and respond to rhythm or rhyme, (e.g., clapping or chanting).

2. Objectives:SWBAT + Bloom’s verb


- Students will be able to identify words that rhyme
- Students will be able to identify two and three dimensional shapes in the environment
- Students will be able to complete the scavenger hunt
- Students will be able to safely observe and explore different objects/environments

3. Materials/Equipment:
- Printed scavenger hunt paper
- Children’s magnifying glass
- Color pencils
- Markers
- Pencil

4. Teaching:
A. Plan for reading the book
- Carpet circle time to read the book aloud to the children
- Encourage clapping when rhyming is heard
- Discuss the book’s illustrations
- Ask students what words rhyme together from the book
- Encourage and allow 5 minutes for students to ask any questions or to share any of their
experiences
- Ask students to go back to their seats to prepare for the activity
B. Plan for extension activity:
- Explain to students that they will be participating in an outdoor scavenger hunt
- Pass out the scavenger hunt sheet
- Explain to students that they will check off any of the items they find
- Explain to students that once completed, they will color in the objects in their sheet
- Explain outdoor rules and behaviors
- Pass out magnifying glasses

5. Closure:

- Students will leave their completed scavenger hunt at their desks


- Student’s ticket out the door will be a question on what they found to be two dimensional
- Students will be asked what they learned from the scavenger hunt or from the book
- Tell students that we will be continuing to learn about nature and animals throughout the
week.
