BOOK EXTENSION ACTIVITY - LESSON PLAN

2. Objectives: SWBAT + Bloom’s verb


- Students will be able to list the different things and people they are grateful for
- Students will be able to create a drawing of their favorite animal from the book
- Students will be able to present their drawing and list to the class

3. Materials/Equipment:
- Paper
- Markers
- Color pencils
- Glue
- Poster

4. Teaching:
A. Plan for reading the book
- Carpet circle time to read the book aloud to the children
- Discuss the book’s illustrations and plot
- Ask students what their favorite animal from the book
- Encourage and allow 5 minutes for students to ask any questions or to share any of their
experiences
- Ask students to go back to their seats to prepare for the activity

B. Plan for extension activity:


- Explain that students will create a list of all the people and things they are grateful for
- Allow 20 minutes to create list
- Explain that students will create a drawing of their favorite animal from the book
- Allow 20 minutes to draw their favorite animal
- Pass out all the materials

5. Closure:

-Students will glue their drawing to the poster and add their list
- Students will show the class their favorite animal drawing and read 5 things from
their list
- Students will leave their posters at their desks
- Student will be asked what they learned from the book
- Tell students that tomorrow we will be learning about manners and rules for the
week.
