A. Plan for reading the book-

 Teacher will read the title, author, and illustrator

 Teacher will introduce the front, spine, and back of the book
 Teacher will introduce and/or teach students about the glossary
 Teacher will have students participate by reading along and asking questions about words
they are not familiar with

Note: Because there are some things that are sensitive such as sharks killing, teacher will
either avoid or explain (with permission from parents and administration) these topics in an
age appropriate way

B. Plan for the extension activity:

Teacher will have students write what they think sharks do when they are not being observed by
scientists
Teacher will have students draw other animals that live in the ocean with sharks

5. Closure: Statement of how to end the activity that is a quick review of the lesson objective.

Teacher will have students share their ideas about shark and explain their illustrations to the
class. Teacher will then have all the students compare ocean life to themselves. Teacher will
explain that all living creatures have a home, need food and water to survive.
