Lesson Reflection

On April 25th, 2022, at Recess Creek Elementary I presented a lesson to my kindergarten field

sites class. My goal was to allow students to develop a mental picture of what poem is being

read. The Lesson was overall meant for them to focus on ways to help recognize imagery as well

as create mental pictures. I taught the students how to do poem imagery, as well as, how to use

five different senses to imagine different poems that I read out loud. Throughout this lesson it

ended very successfully.

Although I had challenges while teaching my lesson that I had to face, as in being more specific,

and making sure my students understand the concept that is being taught. With them being in

kindergarten, allowing myself to not be afraid of going into various details and making sure they

have the concept is something I am working on. Finding more ways to keep the whole class

engaged was quite difficult as well, considering I taught the whole classroom. Trying to keep the

class under control I notice can do certain things as redirecting them, even if it is calling their

name to remind them to stay on task. Therefore, keeping my students attentive, and getting their

input on what is being taught is something I must improve precisely on.

However, on the other hand, my lesson went very well. I began to understand the purpose and

relay the knowledge directly to them as it should have been taught. For example, during the time

I had to teach as I was reading poem, they began to easily show progress of the imagining what

the poem was about applying visual sight, auditory, tactile touch, smell, and taste and providing
their opinion of how they view it. They also started to respond better to questions I was asking

referring to what we were learning. Together as a class towards the end of the lesson the students

also started corroporating better with each other discussing the information that they were

learning.

Overall, what I would change about my lesson is how it was delivered. I wish I would’ve came

off more descriptive with my words. I also wish I would have found another activity that would

have kept the students’ attention throughout the lesson. If I were to teach this lesson again, I

would change the activities and the way I used my words to describe the overall lesson. Teaching

my own lesson was a tussle to begin with, but it was also very fun and educative. From building

and planning my own kindergarten lesson I learned that you must always be descriptive and

straight forward with your words, always present your information descriptive and strict but

don’t make it too boring to where you lose the students attention… and of course always be

yourself.

Being able to intern a kindergarten classroom was such a great opportunity. I gained so much

reliable information and techniques. The in-person connection was amazing as well, I loved

being able to learn the students and their personalities and being able to connect with them. I

wish nothing but the best for my Intern teacher and the students. I am very blessed to receive this

opportunity and cannot wait to use the information that I have learned in the classroom and from

my intern teacher for myself in the future.
