Once engine has reached operating temprature take off into the wind.
Raise the tail as soon as possible and maintian direction with rudder.
The Drl will achieve flying speed quickly and climb speedily.
Flying characteristics :
Che Dri is a fantastically agile aircraft that posses an excellent climb
rate. Pilots should note that the Oberursel rotary engine has strong
gyroscopic effect and be aware of the implications.
The Dri possess a full flying rudder and this should be employed to
over come the gyroscopic effects. Curns should be initiated with the
rudder and employ aerilon for balance. When turning left the pilot
should counter the tendency of the nose to rise with combined rudder
and forward elevator. When performing turns 10 the right the opposite
is true.Ti can be advantageous 16 initially blip the engine in order to
perform smart turns in either direction.
The Dri is inherently unstable by design and pilots should be aware
of acclerated stalls during turns to the left caused by a nose bigh
attitude,
The Oberursel engine should not be allowed to exceed 1400. rpm and
has a tendency to cool quickly, The engine should be keep running
at all times and the blip switch utilised to ensure this doesnt happen.
The Dr performs best at low altitudes, Pilots will experiance an lack
of response in the controls over 200Om. The Drl will dive well but
caution should be taken over the temprature and revs of the engine.Pilot notes continued
Pilots should also take care not to overstress the aircraft pulling out
of fast dives for fear of structural failure. Vibration in the controls
during high speed manuvers is a early warning of this.
Combat Operations.
The Drl is an excellent dogfighting machine. Ts manoeuvrability
and excellent climb make it a deadly adversary, Pilots are
encouraged to avoid left hand turns with a nose high attitude.
Che resultant stall, whilst not hard to recover from will leave the
aircraft momentarily uncontrollable and vulnerable to attack. The
Drl is easily the match or equal in maneuverability of any enemy
aircrafi, :
Tt is however not fast and once engaged pilots may have difficulties
leaving the fight. Che best defence is its excellent climb and ability
to change direction with great alacrity.
Landing
For the unwary pilot, landings may present problems. Che Drl bas
a strong tendency 19 ground loop. Pilots are to be aware of this and
employ measures 10 avoid wing damage caused by the resultant
flipping. s
Landings must always be performed into the wind. Reduce throtile
Jo no fess than 25%. Maintain airspeed via use of the blip switch,
Al standard three point landing is to be advised. During the rofl out
use the blip switch to maintain sufficient airflow over the rudder to
allow you to cancel out any tendency to ground loop and firm back
pressure on the control column to press the tail skid into the ground,
