ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY
 Electrocuting Fish is Harmful

Have you ever heard about electrocuting fish?Electrocuting fish is a kind of hunt fish
by electrocuted with the machine.The machine consist of  email wire, soft iron core,
capacitor, battery, cable, cable ties, mica prespan or cement paper. How to use it simply by
inserting an alternating current into the water through the ends of two iron rods that function
as anode and cathode. But the government has banned it through Law Number 31 of 2004
concerning Fisheries.The prohibition in question is contained in Article 8 paragraph (1) of
Law no. 31 of 2004 concerning Fisheries. These are the reason why electrocuting fish
harmful to ecosystems and humans.

         One of the primary reasons why electrocuting fish is harmful  because the electric
voltage from the machine kills the fish eggs. When fishermen electrocute fish, fish that may
be in the breeding season and are laying eggs indirectly if the fish are electrocuted, their eggs
are also involved.Clearly, fish eggs will die and it is dangerous for the existing fish
population so it is feared that there will be a shortage of fish species.   

         In addition, small animals that become fish food also die due to electricity. Unlike
fishing rods, electrocuting fish electrocutes everything in the water  including the fish food
itself. This can disrupt the balance of the ecosystem in these waters. What this mean is that
the fish food source will die and will also affect the survival of the fish itself.

         Additionally humans who catch fish using an electrocuting fish are at risk of being
electrocuted from their own equipment. As stated earlier, electrocuting fish electrocutes
everything in the water including the fishermen too. Bogor - Dedi (40), a resident of
Tarikolot Village, Citeureup District, Bogor Regency, died while fishing in the Tengso River,
Citeureup, Bogor Regency. Allegedly, Dedi died due to electrocution from the tool he used to
fish.This evidence proves my argument is true because it show that electrocuting fish is
harmful for the ecosystem and humans.

         Some may argue that the voltage from the device is low so as not to damage the
ecosystem and humans. On the other hand Electrocuting fish has become a tradition of the
people of Central Kalimantan and make it easier for fishermen to hunt fish. While it is true
that electrocuting fish is harmful to ecosystems and humans.There is still fatalities and the
destruction of the ecosystem. Antok,head of Bolo Mancing Wonosari (BMW) said the impact
that occurs when hunting uses electricity or electric shocks can also cause fish to fail to
breed. Even though the fish seeds are repeatedly distributed, if it is not balanced with the
awareness of protecting the river environment by the community, it will be in vain. This is
the reason why i believe electrocuting fish is harmful for the ecosystem and humans.

         In conclusion, there are many reasons why hunting fish using electrocuting fish is
harmful for the ecosystem and humans. If  this activity continues the impact will disrupt the
balance of the existing ecosystem, the scarcity of species, and it is possible that there will be
more fatalities as a result of being electrocuted. In addition, electrocuting fish is defined as an
illegal activity and there is already a law that regulates it because of the danger it causes.
