1.1 General
This manual is included in the delivery of the X3 in-line screen-printing
and stencil-printing machine.
It explains the function of the printer, provides information concerning
possible hazards during operation, contains detailed information con-
cerning the correct use of the machine and describes the necessary
maintenance and troubleshooting measures.
Before commissioning the machine, you should read the user’s manual
thoroughly even if you have attended a training course explaining how to
operate the machine.

The squeegee motor powers the drive shaft, using a gear belt and
toothed lock washers. This drive shaft in turn drives the two gear belts on
the left and right (via toothed lock washers).
The squeegee crossbar has been fastened by linear rails to the gear belt.
The squeegee head (not shown) has been fastened to the front squee-
gee and the back squeegee in the middle of the squeegee crossbar.
The squeegee travel is entered into the programme, and the control oper-

The transport system has two transport jaws which run the length of the
transport path. The front transport jaw is fixed and the rear jaw can be
moved by a motor.
The belts are moved by one step motor each per conveyor system chuck
jaw.
Transport of the PCBs is monitored by a sensor at the inlet and outlet
side.
The position at which the PCB is to stop is detected by the PCB stop sen-
sor mounted on the camera unit. The PCB is detected by the sensor,
moved back slightly out of the sensor window and then slowly moved for-
wards to allow fine adjustment. The minimum reverse transport time for
the PCB can be programmed.

This function raises or lowers the squeegee. For example, you can raise
the squeegee in order to remove the stencil or to change the squeegee
blades. If both squeegees are raised (status field is grey), the front or rear
squeegee is lowered depending on the position of the squeegee head. If
the squeegees are in the printing position (status field is green), both
squeegees are raised.
If the machine has gone back to its basic position and the squeegees
have been raised, you can change the initial position of the squeegees
(front / back) by activating the SQUEEGEE button.
Screen clamping
This function switches the screen clamping system on and off. If the
screen clamping system is activated, the status field is green. If an emer-

Warning:
Note the programmed squeegee stop when assembling printing and
coating squeegees.
When the squeegee stop is at the rear (default configuration), the
machine will print from back to front.
When the squeegee stop is at the front (special configuration), the
machine will print from front to back.
If the layout on the LP is substantially smaller than the PCB, this value

Warning:
Make sure that printing and coating squeegee are not directly touching
the screen when configuring the squeegee path, since printing without
solder paste may rapidly wear out the squeegees.

7 Machine Maintenance
The time intervals indicated are valid for machines in single-shift opera-
tion (8 hours).
If the machine operates in high ambient temperatures and if materials are
processed which generate large amounts of dust, these intervals must be
correspondingly shortened.
Check the safety features every day whether they are working prop-
erly

• Monitor
Subject the manometers at the pressure reducers to daily checks.
• Maintenance unit: 5-6 bar
• PCB clamping_ 1-2 bar
(See “Check Pneumatic” on page 7-24.)
Motors, fans, vacuum devices and valves are maintenance-free.
Machine parts such as spindles, guide bearings / rails and guiding shafts
can be easily lubricated or greased.
7-1
DANGER:
Turn off the machine at the main switch (as described in Chapter 4)
before performing any type of maintenance work.
Warning:
Do not use lubricants with solid ingredients (such as graphite and MoS2)
to grease the guide rails.
The grease for the ball circulation spindle (lifting unit) most only contain
graphite.
Warning:
If solvent-containing pastes are used, it is the customer's responsibility to
check whether these solvents affect the properties of the lubricants (vis-
cosity, durability).

Check the toothed belt for any indication of contamination and wear.

Warning:
Be careful with the quantity of grease when relubricating the linear guide
blocks. If sufficient grease is visible on the grease lip, no lubrication is
necessary.
Note:
Remove any excess grease.
Move the squeegee unit by hand and check the grease control lip.
⇒ If you detect a small amount of residual grease, the guide carriage
has been well and sufficiently lubricated.

7.9.1 Checking the toothed belt tensioning of camera unit drive Y-Axis
Pull the camera unit back to the point where a gap of 360 mm opens
up between the crown gear and the cleaning unit clamping element.
Measure the belt tension with a TRUM frequency gauge.
Tap the toothed belt briefly and hold the sensor towards the belt.
⇒ The vibration frequency should be 100Hz.
Check the toothed belt for any indication of contamination and wear.
