Junior | Transfer Solutions
Moving children and teenagers

Using transfer solutions that are safe, comfortable and dignified is vital for both the user
and carer. Many transfer solutions allow the user to be involved which helps reduce the
strain on the carer. Manual lifting is not recommended when the weight exceeds 15-20 kg,
and children and teenagers need to be transferred easily, safely and with dignity.
The Classifications of disability
Mild
The user is able to weight bear and have active use of arms. Head and trunk control is good. The
user is actively involved in the transfer but may need some support
Moderate
The user has some head and trunk control and might be actively involved in the transfer, but will
need support. Weight bearing is not reliable, at least only for a short period of time, so transfer need
to be a combination of giving support and make the user active.
Severe
The user does not have head and trunk control and will need help and support when being
transferred. Depending on the users weight, a hoist may need to be used, to make it safe for both
user and helper.

Sit to stand situations

Some of the most common transfer situations are for toileting and personal hygiene. As
toilets and bathrooms are often small spaces, the transfer solutions we choose have to
take up as little space as possible but still be functional and easy to use.

Using transfer platforms like the Molift Raiser d emands
the user to have weight bearing ability and be able to
stand up. Raiser offers multiple grip options, adjustable
knee support, and the possibility to secure the child
during the transfer using a support belt. Molift Raiser is
ideal for use in the toilet or bathroom due to its compact
design and the easy access to remove clothing when
toileting is necessary

Walking is a great way to give a user a sense of independence and at the same time a
sense of achievement. walking is a natural way for a person to move. The whole body is
involved, skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, heart, lungs etc. Disabled children can have
difficulties in walking for various reasons, they must therefore be guided and stimulated
in taking their first steps. Walking can give a child the opportunity of getting around,
socializing and interacting with its peers.

An important activity for children at all levels is to get into a standing position. The
advantages of putting users into a standing position include increasing bone mass,
strengthening muscles, furthering respiration, and enhancing development of the hip
socket. The upright position also increases a user’s viewing area and enhances their
feeling of well-being. Weight bearing is important to the user when developing and
strengthening the hip joints.

When transferring from sitting to standing the functional
level of the user will determine the most proper transfer
method to use.
If the user has the ability to stand-up and walk a few
steps, an Immedia SupportBelt offers good support
and assistance. At the same time the diagonally placed
handles allows the caregiver to maintain a more
ergonomic grip and posture. Use the SupportBelt for

with a weight below 25 kg, it is important to consider using transfer products to minimise
the load on the parents and helpers as well as encouraging independence.

Transfer - sitting
For children with upper body stability but no weight
bearing a sitting to sitting transfer using an Immedia

Dressing

Horizontal positioning situations

When repositioning has to be performed many times a day it is important to choose
methods and solutions that are safe, comfortable and easy to use.

Positioning - horizontal
Repositioning is often underestimated, regarding the
strain on the helper when performed. The Immedia
SatinSheet System allows the helper to reposition while
maintaining a good posture with minimal strain due to
the low friction in four directions.

Instructions
Take a good grip in the SatinSheet4Direction at the hips and shoulders. Use weight transfer and pull the child higher in bed. If the child is out
of center push carefully either at the shoulders and hips or use the

At the end of the day the number of transfers are increasing. Bathroom and toilet activities

in the transfer will decrease. What the child is able to perform in the morning might not
be possible in the evening. It is important to take this in consideration when the transfer
method is chosen.

risk of decubitus.

Instructions
RgoSling Shadow is a sit-on sling, that you can leave in the chair. Find the straps and place the straps in the spreaderbar, make sure they
are placed correctly.
Lift the user. Place the user correctly in the bed.
Lower down into the bed, use the SatinSheet System to turn to the side
and remove the sling. (see page 17)

Vertical transfer situations

Being on the floor when it’s play time, doing exercises or just to take a rest, is important
for a child. Transferring, for example, to and from the floor is always a complex task that
demands safe and comfortable solutions for both the child and the helper.

Methods and products are suitable for functional level Severe.
