Using scans or photocopies of scores in your Final Recital?

Please read on if this applies to you – it’s important!

The School has a Higher Education Printed Music Licence (HEPML) which allows students to copy whole
scores of in-copyright material if it is for practice, project, or assessment (final recital, midyear, etc).
You can only use scans or photocopies of scores if the original copy is owned by the School = stocked by
the Library.

What to do:
1. Even if you plan on buying your scores for your final recital, check the Library also has at least one
copy of the same edition. We will always buy previously un-stocked scores for Final Recitals as long
as we have enough time to get them.
2. For each separate score, take a photo of the title page beforehand.
3. Scan this QR code on your mobile, or go to https://www.pmll.org.uk/hepml-via-photo/

4. This takes you to the Report via Photo page of the PMLL
website.
5. Select Guildhall School of Music & Drama from the Name
of Organisation List list.
6. Add each title page image as instructed, note how many
copies of each you will be using (not including the
original/s) and click on Submit.
7. Your scanned/copied final recital repertoire is now
copyright cleared! Five minutes of your time, peace of mind
all term!

If you have any questions about how to do this, please contact

library@gsmd.ac.uk and we can help.
