Part A (5x2=10)
1. Define traction force.
2. Infer CST element.
3. Write down the Stress-Strain relationship matrix for plane stress condition.
4. Define Gaussian quadrature.
5. Define Sub parametric element.

Part B (1x8=8)
6. i) Evaluate ∫ (x +x ) dx by applying three-point gaussian quadrature.

ii) Evaluate the cartesian co-ordinate of the point P which has local co-ordinates ℰ=0.6 & η=0.8 as
shown in Fig.(i)
Or
7. The nodal co-ordinates for an axi-symmetric triangular element shown in Fig.(ii) are given below:
r1=20mm; r2=40mm; r3=30mm; z1=40mm; z2=40mm; z3=60mm. Evaluate [B] matrix for that element.

Part B (2x16=32)

8. a) Determine the nodal displacement of nodes 1 and 2 and the element stresses for the two-dimensional
loaded plate as shown in Fig(iii). Assume plane stress condition. Take, µ=0.25, E=2x10 5N/mm2,
Thickness=15mm.

b). Evaluate the following a thin plate is subjected to surface traction as shown in Fig.(iv). Calculate the
global stiffness matrix. Take, t=25mm, E=2x10 5 N/mm2 and µ=0.30. Assume plane stress condition.

9. a) Evaluate the following for a four noded rectangular element shown in Fig.(v), determine the following
1. Jacobian matrix, 2. Strain displacement matrix, 3. Element stresses. Take E=2x10 5N/mm2; µ=0.25; u= [0,
0, 0.002, 0.003, 0.005, 0.003, 0, 0] T; ɛ=0; ɳ=0. Assume plane stress conditions.

b) Calculate For the Iso-parametric quadrilateral element shown in Fig.(vi), the Cartesian coordinates of
point ‘p’ are (6, 4), the load 10 KN &12 KN are acting in x & y direction on the point ‘p’. Evaluate the
nodal equivalent forces.
