PART-A (5*2=10)
1. What are the main advantages of blow down type wind tunnels?
2. Define Mach number?
3. Label low speed wind tunnel with a neat sketch.
4. State the uses of uncertainty analysis.
5. Name any two equipments used in the calibration of wind tunnels.

PART-B (1*8=8)

6. Explain intermittent blowdown type wind tunnel with a neat sketch.

Or

7. Classify different types of experimental facilities used for high-speed testing and compare shock
tubes and shock tunnels with suitable sketches.

PART-C (2*16=32)

8. a) Elaborate Continuous flow supersonic tunnel with a neat sketch. Discuss the losses in
supersonic wind tunnels.

Or

b) A subsonic wind tunnel of square test-section runs at 30m/s, with pressure 97.325kpa and
temperature 22oC, in the test-section. A turbulence sphere with theoretical surface finish offering 4 percent
blockage experience critical Reynolds number at this state. Determine the test section height.

9. How do you measure the actual forces and moments acting on a model placed in a test section
stream? Classify different types of wind tunnel balances and explain any two types of balance.

Or

10. Discuss the following.

i) Force Balances
ii) Moment type Balances
iii) Direct Read Balances
iv) Sting Balance
