UNIT 1 - Fadilatul Umami

Material :
1. Getting attention.
2. Checking understanding.
3. Giving compliment and appreciation.
4. Asking and giving opinion.

A. Principles of adapting
1. Localization: the material in this book is relevant. It covers things that 8 th
graders usually faced on daily basis in their environment.
2. Personalization: the material and examples are relevant. It’s easy to
understand because there are images to keep students from getting bored. The
only thing that may be hard for them is the assignment.
3. Individualization: unit 1 on this book match with students who have visual
learning style because it gives many pictures for the example. And for student
with different learning style they need other media and teacher’s further
explanation.
4. Modernization: because the book is 2017 revision, the language that used is up
to date, easy to understand and relatable to the current condition.
5. Simplification: the assignment in unit 1 too hard for some students so we
should change it to another kind of assignment like multiple choice, etc.

B. Procedure of adapting
1. Adding the material and template structure text.
2. Modifying the assignment or journal assignment because its too hard for the
students that doesn’t have enough English background. Moreover students
don’t have English in their subject in elementary school. Replace the
assignment with completing the sentence in a text, multiple choice, or
completing a dialog.
3. Adding another example containing situations outside of the school.
4. Adding material with audio learning that help student who prefers audio
learning.

Material :
1. State we can do something.
2. State we will do something.

A. Principles of adaptation :
1. Localization : it's relevance because the book is use kurtilas which got revision
on 2017. Kurtilas was created by Indonesian educational minister. Some of the
example are related to Indonesian.
2. Personalization : The material and dialogue example in unit 2 are relevant and
easy to understand. But, the assessment are too hard for 8 grade.
3. Individualization : Unit 2 is match for students with visual learning style. For
those who have another learning style, it is depends on how teachers explain it
or what media that teachers used. The media and teachers' explains will help
the students.
4. Modernization : The language used is up to date because this book got
revision at 2017. It is easy to understand, and relatable to current conditions.
5. Simplification : The appearance of the book is quite interesting, used many
pictures that relate to Indonesian so students wouldn't get bored.

B. Procedure of adapting
1. Adding templates (text structure) for the material.
2. Modifying assessment because it is too hard for students in grade 8 Junior
High School.
3. Adding instructions in every assessment so students more understand what
should they do for the assessment.

UNIT 3 - Herdino Yanuari

Material :
1. Giving suggestions.
2. State rules and obligations.

A. Principles of Adaptation :
1. Localization : It's relevance because the book is use curriculum 2013 revision
2017, that's created by Indonesian educational minister. In the some example
of the material is using things related to Indonesian students culture and
needs.
2. Personalization : The material is quite easy to understand, relevant, but the
assignments in this unit are too difficult for 8th graders
3. Individualization : This unit in the book is match for students with visual
learning style. For another students that is doesn't match with visual learning
style, it is depends on how the teacher to explaining or using Instructional
media that will be used on the class.
4. Modernization : The language used is not out of date, easy to understand, and
relatable to current conditions.
5. Simplification : The appearance of the book is quite attractive, accompanied
by pictures, so that it will be more interesting for students to study the
material, but there are several contrasting colors so that it quickly makes
students' eyes tired when reading the book.

B. Procedures of Adapting:
1. Adding the material for more complex and another example.
2. Modifying the first assignment, in the book, it's too hard for students, it's
better to student to complete the gap text.
3. Modifying the second assignment because too hard for grade 8th students, this
is influenced by the background of the students, because there are some
students whose in the elementary school don't get English course.
4. Adding Instructions, because in some parts there is no barrier between one
material and other material, then there is no instruction in the task.
5. Adding and also simplifying about structure text of the material, because there
is no structure text of the material in this unit, in the unit only show the
example and also the assignment. The students need simple explanation about
the material, to make easier to understand.

Materials :
1. Inviting someone.
2. Give instruction.
3. Asking for permission.

A. Principles of adaptation :
1. Localization : it's relevance because the book is use kurtilas which got revision

2. Personalization : The material and dialogue example in unit 4 are relevant and
easy to understand. But, the assessment are too hard for 8 grade.
3. Individualization : The material give the students with visual style learning
ease to understand the material. As the teacher should giving another activity
that can be accepted to all learning style of the students and pairing work is the
one of solution to make each students work together.
4. Modernization : The language style in this book used is quite relevant to the
now language style this mean is not to stif and it can used in daily life and they
used informal language.
5. Simplification : the book is interesting with the appearance is full of picture
and due to the picture, students may not bored easily.

B. Procedure of Adapting
1. Give add written instructions to the book each sub chapter in order to make the
students more understand while self learning.
2. Adding separation of each sub chapter.
3. Adding templates for each material or starter text that students can know the
text are made, not just the example of the text instead.
4. Modifying assessment because we think this assessment is to hard for the class
8 students, beside the background of the students not fast enough to catch up
the material that is too further it difficulties.
