snobbery. They value marriage, and the average family has several children.
Costa Rican society is firmly rooted in the nation´s Hispanic heritage, which stresses the individual but was traditionally male-
dominant. Family lineage is not the lone indicator of good social standing, for Costa Rica believe in upward mobility through
education and conscientiousness at work. These words appear in Costa Rica´s national anthem. “Long live work and peace”.

TASK 4. READ THE TEXT BELOW
5 WAYS TO EARN THE RESPECT OF OTHERS
Step 1: Don´t waste other people´s time; they will respect yours. This
includes not being late for appointment, getting to the point fast,
and of course, making it easier for others to make decisions.
Step 2: Always act as if the person you´re talking about is right there
with you. Everyone has desirable and undesirable traits. Realize this
and talk from this fundamental belief. If you talk behind people´s
backs, you, and your reputation will quickly become irrelevant.
Step 3: Practice humility. You are not always going to be right, and
you´re not the best at everything. Confidence doesn´t come from a
place where you´re the best. Every person has something unique to
offer to the world, including you.
Step 4: Have a moral code. Many omit this important little piece of
advice. What do you believe in? What makes you mad?
Step 5: At the other extreme of having a moral code is to remain
open-minded. Being open-minded is not complicated, nor is it in
conflict with having a moral code.
