Note:
Blood grouping & cross matching absolutely essential prior to blood transfusion, as errors can
Occur due to irregular antibodies.

The test will only indicate the presence or absence of Hepatitis –B surface Antigen in the specimen and other
considerations like clinical symptoms should be noted before making final diagnosis. False positive results can be
obtained due to presence of other antigen or elevated levels of RF Factor.

Remark: This test detect only antibody to HIV I & II and may become positive 6 weeks after risk behavior. (Exposure
to antigen). The test may be false negative during incubation period. This test is known to give occasional false
positive results. Should be confirmed by western blot test.

As with any serological test result is meant to help in the assessment of the case and should be correlated with clinical
and other laboratory findings before arriving at a final diagnosis.
