Immigration Affecting Families

 Process Paper:

I chose the topic, Immigration Affecting Families because throughout the year we have
seen how immigration can cause positive and negative impacts on families. Immigration has had
effects on the lives and future of families in America and other places. I personally know some
people that are immigrants and I have been able to witness how immigration changes their life.
Knowing people that are immigrants has led me to want to learn more and has made me want to
gain a better understanding of the problems and struggles people and their families have to face
and overcome. Immigration is a word that most people know but it may be a topic or discussion
that some are not fully aware of.
I conducted my research by reading and gaining a better understanding of primary and
secondary sources. Finding research on a topic that you want to know more about was pretty
easy. There are many different types of sources and documents that provide information about
how immigration affects and makes people suffer. I started first by finding information on
documents that had an interesting title and were called to my attention. Once I realized what my
topic would be, I began researching more on this specific topic. I also looked for pictures given
in some of the documents that gave me a better understanding. I began to research information
on laws for families that are immigrants, recent news, and overall information that connects with
my topic.
For my project, I have decided to create a website. The reason why is because, with all
the information I have been able to gather, I feel like it is best if I insert it into a website. I have
decided to use Weebly as my website builder. I will use a template provided, insert pictures that
relate to my topic, and insert all my information on my website. My website will be interactive
for the people and it will be a way for others to learn about immigration affects families. Since I
have previously used Weebly I feel like it will be faster for me to complete the project. Having
experience will definitely help me out during the process of creating my website.
My topic, Immigration Affecting Families, connects to this year's NHD theme of debate
and diplomacy. Immigration has been an ongoing U.S political debate for many years. The
reason why is because immigration is a topic that everyone has different opinions and beliefs
about. People can debate about their opinions and it can go back and forth between the people
debating. Our higher education, professionals, and even presidents all have different opinions
about the topic of immigration and how it affects families. Diplomacy in my topic is relatable
because there are things that have been negotiated for immigrant families that may have affected
or worked out for them. Throughout the years we have been seeing the opinions, laws, beliefs,
declarations, and debates on the topic of Immigration Affecting Families.
