After a traumatic loss at a spoken poetry competition, Drew hesitantly joins again at a convention where
he meets his long-time infatuation, Rustam. But leaving Drew’s love for him unreciprocated years ago,
the former has surrounded himself with high walls declining Rustam’s efforts to reconcile with him—
with the latter only to be left confused with his feelings. Where shall this lead the two?
Plot
Rustam used to be Drew’s infatuation three years ago, when they were both yet immature. The two were
best friends ever since fourth grade. Rustam is an expert in declamation and poetry. He competed in many
of the school’s poetry competitions and even became a Nationals qualifier. He has a crap ton of
organizations he is affiliated with. He is an advocate of multiple pursuits. He can effectively manage his
time. On weekends, he plays online games with his friends. On the other hand, Drew was known to be
their class’ mathematician and science guy. He was not the stereotypical nerd with so much pimples,
thick eyebrows, thick eyeglass lenses, tasteless bowl-cut hair, and outwardly protruding incisors. When he
has the time, he spend time with those schoolmates who suffers in agony trying to learn Mathematics.
Alike to Rustam, he also competes is many contests but only those of which are related to his subject
expertise. He is fond of reading books especially non-fiction ones. He also likes puzzles. He does not
want to get into too many responsibilities. He just wants to live a basic teenager life like others. Despite
being of different friendship circles and attitudes, Rustam and Drew both shared interest in poetry, with
Rustam being the poet whom Drew admired for his expertise. Drew began to try making poems, watching
ton of varied poetry performers such as Beverly Cumla and Juan Miguel Severo. Rustam was the one who
taught him about writing poems. Rustam appreciated the effort Drew exerted on trying to write poetries.
Even though Drew’s works were not that good, Rustam showed him the kindness and patience in the
manner he approach giving criticisms on Drew’s works. Because of pursuing too much of his prose,
Rustam’s academic performance dropped by only a few bars, still on the passing mark. However, his
parents pressure him to get high grades and beat the crap out of Drew, who happened to be their class
topnotcher.
With the two’s interest on each other’s field of expertise, they agreed to spend time together to learn and
teach each other what they know on poetry and the academics. Drew always go to Rustam’s house to
spend time on teaching him and learning from him as well. Drew discovered Rustam’s liking on thriller
and action movies, something which he also likes. He also observed how much of a gentleman Rustam is.
He thought that Rustam is the type of guy who might cry in case he hurt somebody just because of how
caring and soft-hearted he is.
Rustam reveals that his secret towards making good poetry is by tediously analyzing others’ works and
examining his. He tries to adapt their style or make something which is contrasting or counter-appeals to
the piece of others. He finds inspiration by empathizing with others and it is others’ story which resonates
from his poem. However, it can be difficult for him to strategize or device plans and other approaches as
he sticks to his routine or what he has been used to, making it hard for him to learn Mathematics. Drew
reveals that he gets his fast-learning ability by peer observation, working on his own, reading, and
through imitation. What challenged him in writing is the originality. How he learned to write eventually is
by narrating his daily experiences in detail. (Dear diary) He therefore finds inspiration upon reflecting on
his own experiences and not through others experiences. He would write better if he is in agony. He
cannot write whenever he is happy.
Improvements on their respective skills manifested as days passed by, and so as Drew’s feelings for
Rustam. The Graduation Ball came nearer and nearer. Drew recognized that what he felt was the feeling
of love for Rustam.

Chapter 1
At a spoken word poetry competition, Rustam meets Drew again, a *long time* after they
graduated from high school.
Rustam performs first, and so Drew gets no chance to witness his performance.
Drew gets the first runner-up while Rustam gets third runner-up.
Rustam congratulates Drew for his achievement.
- Drew and his sister were hopeful that Rustam gets to participate in the Intercollegiate Spoken
Poetry Competition. They arrived early assuming they will have the chance to talk to Rustam
before the performances begin. Drew and other participants were already in their designated
waiting room. Rustam was assigned as the fourth one to perform. His entry was about to be
declined if his Coach did not plead the judge to wait for him until the 4 th performance is to be
called. Luckily, he just arrived in time. Rustam’s anxiety rose as he stared towards the eyes of
each judges. Nonetheless, he was able to successfully deliver his piece.
- Meanwhile, Drew was hopeless that he would ever find Rustam in the said competition since he
cannot see him in the waiting room. During the latter of the third contestant’s performance, Drew
rushed to the CR to wash his hands and change clothes, with his sister following him, waiting for
him in front of the entrance of the males’ room. Just in time, his sister noticed Rustam going
forward to the backstage, in preparation as the next performer. While Drew was busy doing his
business, he heard a familiar voice – that of Rustam. He eventually realized that his olden love
was there.
- Drew comes out of the CR but with his sister blaming him for not getting out so soon causing him
to lose the chance to see Rustam. Drew denies that he heard some lines from Rustam’s
performance and that his sister only saw him in her illusion.
