2. What have you learned from our class about Assessment in the following
areas:
a. Formative and Summative Testing
Formative Testing is an assessment to enhance or improve their cognitive ability during
discuss. Teachers can use ungraded quizzes, oral recitation, assignments, etc. The goal of
formative assessment is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used
by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning. Summative
testing is also an assessment to prove whether the learners achieved the learning goal or not and
evaluate student's achievements. Examples of summative assessments are midterm exams, end-
of-unit or –chapter tests, final projects or papers, district benchmark and scores used for
accountability for schools and students.
b. Test Construction
Most tests are a form of summative assessment. They measure students’ performance on a
given task. Tests made up of multiple choice, matching type, fill-in the blank, true/false,
identification,etc.

c. Item Analysis
Item analysis is the act of analyzing student responses to individual exam questions with the
intention of evaluating exam quality. It is an important tool to uphold test effectiveness and
fairness. Item analysis is likely something educators do both consciously and unconsciously on a
regular basis. Item Analysis is an important tool to increase test effectiveness. Each items
contribution is analyzed and assessed. To write effective items, it is necessary to examine whether
they are measuring the fact, idea, or concept for which they were intended.
In line with the implementation of the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 (Republic Act
No. 10533), the Department of Education is adopting the enclosed Policy Guidelines on
Classroom Assessment for the K to 12 Basic Education Program. Classroom Assessment is an
integral part of curriculum implementation. It allows the teachers to track and measure learners’
progress. Classroom assessment informs the learners, as well as their parents and guardians, of
their progress. Classroom Assessment is an ongoing process of identifying, gathering, organizing,
and interpreting information about what learners know and can do.
In line with the implementation of Republic Act No. 10533, otherwise known as Enhanced
Basic Education Act of 2013 (K to 12 Law), the Department of Education (DepEd) is adopting
the enclosed Policy Guidelines on Awards and Recognition for the K to 12 Basic Education
Program. These awards have been designed to formally recognize the outstanding performance
and achievement of learners in academics, leadership, and social responsibility, among other
aspects of student progress and development. These awards are given to encourage learners to
strive for excellence and to become proactive members of the school and community. This policy
aims to give all learners equal opportunity to excel in relation to the standard set by the
curriculum and focus on their own performance rather than to compete with one another. It
recognizes that all students have their unique strengths that need to be identified, strengthened,
and publicly acknowledged.
For the information and guidance of all concerned, the Department of Education (DepEd)
issues the enclosed copy of the Policy and Guidelines on Protecting Children in School from
Abuse, Violence, Exploitation, Discrimination, Bullying and Other Forms of Abuse entitled
“DepEd Child Protection Policy.” The DepEd has adopted the policy to provide special protection
to children who are gravely threatened or endangered by circumstances which affect their normal
development and over which they have no control, and to assist the concerned agencies in their
rehabilitation. This Department reiterates a zero tolerance policy for any act of child abuse,
exploitation, violence, discrimination, bullying and other forms of abuse and hereby promulgates
this Department Order.
