 1. Introduction

Having a qualified education is a basic prerequisite for entering the professional market as many
jobs require postsecondary education. The importance of taking a degree course is reflected in the
increase in professional opportunities, in the possibility of earning better salaries and it is also
perceived in personal growth. Many people after graduation start to have a more critical thinking
a part from that we have different social and economic situations in the world. Education creates
a new vision to a society as its citizens will have more foundation to make more assertive decisions
for their communities, province, country and world.

Mozambique has a lot of Universities with a wide range of degrees and master courses. Those
Universities offer several types of degrees courses, namely: degree in teaching (Portuguese,
mathematic, biology, geography, physics, chemistry, physical education, philosophy, French,
English, Drawing,…), degree in public administration, degree in engineering, degree in agriculture,
degree in accounting, degree in medicine, degree in dentistry, degree in electronic engineering,
degree in computer and telecommunication engineering, degree in rural sociology and development
management, degree in law, degree in general nursing, and much more.

This essay describes public administration course, its current modality, content, duration, and other
relevant information about the course. It also describes my future plans, dreams and aspiration after
completing public Administration course.

 2. Public Administration Course

I am doing the Public Administration course at UNISCED in the online distance learning modality.
This teaching is done through the interaction of the student with the tutor and with other students,
via the Moodle Platform. Moodle platform is defined as a virtual learning management space,
where the student finds and carries out online learning activities: interaction with the tutor through
forums, chats and assessments. This course has duration of 4 years.

In terms of contents, the degree in public administration at UNISCED is composed by a set of

subjects whose main aim is to promote a modern, rigorous and holistic training capable of
providing the student with the necessary technical knowledge and competences around the legist
arts of public Administration and contains a curricular formatting suitable for the training of staff
for international organization namely those in SADC region, and the African Union. It is intended,
therefore, to enable and provide in depth knowledge, at the most diverse levels, of the Organization
and functioning of the National Public Administration, the direct administration of the state, Public
Institutes, Municipalities and other Organizations, thus providing basic initial training in an area
knowledge in which the intervention of the state in the political, economic, social and technological
aspects for regularization of the problems that arise in the mechanism is essential.

The aim of public administration course is:

 To train and qualify professionals capable on operating in many domains of the public
sector ;

 Humanely manage public organizations;

 To initiate and facilitate interactions between government for profit and nonprofit
sectors;

 To provide ethical and workable solutions to social needs;

 To create a collaborative environment of excellence in instruction, research and service;

 To translate research into effective practices and achievable human policies,

professional capable to determine;

  To collect, and analyze the evidence appropriate and essential for implementing public
services strategies;

 To communicate effectively in oral and written discourses with a diverse and changing
workforce and public;…

The person graduated in this course may work in: administration and finance, administration and
public management, auditing and taxation, accounting and administration, accounting and public
finance, human resources management, asset management, public and municipal management,
manager of municipal companies, manager of private companies, among others.

This course presents several areas of framework after professional training as it is possible to work
in the public sector as in private sector that is why I am motivated to do this course. After my
professional training I would like to progress my career and work as head of a school secretary,
because I have a sense of humor while juggling numerous tasks, I have a computer skills, excellent
communication and interpersonal skills, I can independently work with others in a wide variety of
circumstance, I have a sense of responsibility and I also work as a teacher and I have a vision in
the area of human resources management in public sectors specifically in schools. I am also
acquainted with the responses of a head secretary, such as: he serves as the face of the school,
greeting students and parents and providing them with information, secretary schedule
appointment, answer the phones if the school possesses and give administrative support to teachers
and school officials, he also order and inventory supplies, inter lunch information into the billing
system and verify information in notes from doctors and parents, he may attend meetings and
record the proceedings and depending on the possession, he may have bookkeeping and payroll
duties.

Finally, I would like to do my master’s degree after finishing the course in public administration
as a way of advancing in the carrier or position, to earn a good salary, to have an advanced
knowledge and to switch fields entirely. I also consider the possibility of working in private sector
after my master degree specifically in the area of accommodation and tourism as a human resources
manager of a big five stars hotel.

 3. Conclusion

Taking a degree course does not mean earning a good salary, however it is important to choose the
right course so that in the future will be easy to find a job in Public sectors as in private sectors. To
choose a degree course is not just to fulfill you expectation however it is important to beer in mind
the possibilities of getting a job taking into account the reality of the country you live. It is important
to take a degree course for a personal growth, to develop a critical thinking and to make decisions
as an academic person.

Public administration degree is an excellent course as it teaches a person to be organized, and to be

able to work under pressure. Those qualities are not only required in professional life but also in
personal life, and it leads a person to have a different and acceptable posture in society.
