The Siddiquis international school visit to Ibrahim medical college

The students of siddiquis international school visited Ibrahim medical college at the 15th of May 2011. The students of class-9 went there as a study-tour .I being one of those students would like to thank the authorities as well as all the professors of Ibrahim medical college for being kind enough to have allowed us a chance to visit such a great medical college and letting us learn from it. When we went to the college we were at once struck by the arrangements the authorities had made for us. It was amazing to see the way they wanted to make us interested in the medical profession. At first we were led into the conference room and were seated when the vice-principal accompanied by three of the teachers entered into the room and then we saw two slide-shows introducing the college and the criteria for admission as well as the management and curriculum activities. Then after some snacks we were led to the library where Mr. Ali Momen the librarian explained to us the workings of the library. We then got to know that exams were going on and the college had been kind enough to let us visit in between them. Then we went to visit one of the lecture halls. After that we began visiting the different departments. 1. Department of Anatomy: The department of anatomy had the Dissection hall where there were two dissected bodies which the students had to study for their exams. Luckily the exam had not yet started and we were able to watch them from a distance and be explained the workings of the body. It was extremely helpful as we were able to study the parts practically which was the first time for us. I am sure this visit has been

extremely beneficial for us and will provide a very helpful medium for studying in the future. 2. Physiology: In this department we were able to study closely and look at the different apparatus that were there, we were able to look at how everything was done there. Then we were explained by the doctors there how everything was controlled by the body. The different processes and how they were conducted by the body. We also were explained how the internal systems of the body worked. All in all we came out of there feeling as though we had learned a lot from the experience. 3. Bio-chemistry: The department of Bio-chemistry was in one word, awesome. We went in there expecting a lot of excitement and it would be an understatement to say we were not let down. Different chemicals arranged in rows on the shelves were all shown to us by the lecturers. Then we were seated around a table while Dr. Syeda Fahmida Afrin explained to us the importance and the workings of bio-chemistry. Community medicine: This is also known as public health medicine and has a lot to do with the improvement in living conditions and public health safety. The doctors of the department explained to us the importance of this medicine and the usefulness of it. The doctors helped us understand that this branch also deals with spread of diseases and its causative and preventive measures. One of the main ideas of this branch is to promote preventive measures. They explained to us that the disappearance of some diseases has been due to the contribution and development o community medicine. 4. Pathology: In this department we got to know about how pathology actually works. We got to know how pathology goes through all aspects of treatment by medicine, how it aims to learn all the causes and the treatment of the patients. Pathology was extremely interesting and a great experience for all of us. Dr. Rezwanur Rahman then led us around to some of the preserved diseased organs and explained to us the problems with each of them and what they should have been. It was a great experience and we got to look at and study many of the different chemicals which we had studied but never examined practically.

5. Community medicine: This was all about the diseases that harm the body and the preventive measures that this branch takes against them. We were told about how through community medicine had helped the near eradication of many diseases such as dengue etc. by working out the principles of prevention about the medicine. Prevention is better than cure is the ethos of this branch and we were thrilled to learn that many of the preventive measures of medicines we study have actually come from community medicine. 6. Microbiology: We all knew about microbiology and also about its great contributions to the field of modern medical medicine but we had never seen up close the equipments and the measures which they took. Dr. Shaheda Anwar who showed us the departments showed to us the equipments the doctors used and the methods in which the cultured agarjelly and made insulin practically. It was a great experience for us and it is definitely going to help us understand and remember the different things for our IGCSE Biology exams. 7. Forensic: In the forensics department we were at once impressed by the weapons kept inside the glass cases and we went over to observe them from a distance. Then the professor came in and briefly described the functions of this department. Then she led us around the room to look at some of the gruesome pictures in the room, we were horrified to see some of them. We learned a lot from this department. 8. Pharmacology: In this branch we met with Dr.A.K.M. Nurul Anwar who has a great sense of humor and is an extremely affable man. We looked in through numerous microscopes and saw many specimens of the drugs. He also explained to us many characteristics and uses of the drugs. It was the most beneficial tour anyone had ever had from our class. We had never had a better time than at Ibrahim Medical College. It is the best higher studies college and with the kind and ever-helpful teachers it is definitely my choice and will be my privilege if I can study at this great temple of education. So, on behalf of Siddiquis International school I would like to say,
