ENGLISH HOLIDAY HOMEWORK 2021-22

Class IX

Students will do the homework in their respective subject notebook.


I. Make a collage on an A3 size sheet or chart paper (A3 size only) on any ONE of the
following socially relevant theme. Use powerful visuals/ photographs cut out from
newspapers and/or magazines and sayings/quotes/slogans made from alphabets/whole
slogans or quotes cut out from magazines/ newspapers etc. There should be bare
minimum use of poster colours and sketch pens. Ensure that the colour scheme is
visually pleasing and eye catching.
a. Save the girl child/Stop female foeticide
b. Corona Warriors
c. Protect endangered species
d. Empathy for the differently abled
e. Educate the girl child
f. Stop child labour

II. Read at least one book from the following:


● How I Taught My Grandmother to Read and Other Stories by Sudha Murty
● Three Thousand Stitches, Ordinary People, Extraordinary Lives by Sudha Murty
● Foundation by Issac Asimov
● The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
● Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift
● The English Teacher by R.K. Narayan

III. Read the following lessons from the Supplementary Reader- MOMENTS:
▪ The Adventures of Toto (Mulk Raj Anand)
▪ Iswaran the Storyteller (Ruskin Bond)
▪ In the Kingdom of Fools (Kannada Folktale (ed.) A.K. Ramanujan)
IV. Creative Monologue:
Students will choose a character from any one chapter in Literature textbook and write a
monologue based on the character’s perspective. (5-10 mins.)
The students will present their monologues in class while their peers will give feedback on
the performance and how well the character’s emotional perspective was understood/
interpreted.
V. Complete the pending Literature assignments (if any) in notebook.
VI. Complete Unit 1, 2 and 3 of Words and Expressions 1.
VII. Revise the syllabus done in the class for the Periodic Assessment.
