Question: Human rights are the rights being enjoyed by all human
beings without any discrimination. Discuss.
Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. Human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more. Everyone is entitled to these rights, without discrimination. All human rights are indivisible and interdependent. This means that one set of rights cannot be enjoyed fully without the other. Human rights are moral principles or norms that describe certain standards of human behaviour, and are regularly protected as legal rights in municipal and international law. Everyone born in this world has human rights that must be protected by the law. The term “human rights” is used to describe a wide spectrum of rights such as the right to like to the right to a cultural identity. They consist of elementary and fundamental criteria for a dignified human life. Universal: human rights belong to all people. Unalienable: human rights cannot be taken away. Interconnected: human rights are dependent on each other. Indivisible: human rights cannot be treated in isolation. Non-discriminatory: human rights should be respected without prejudice.
UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS: The universal
declaration of human rights (UDHR) was drafted by the UN Commission on human rights chaired by , then First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt. The UDHR was adopted by the 56 member nations (now 192) of the UN General Assembly on December 10, 1948. IMPORTANCE OF HUMAN RIGHTS: Human rights reflect the minimum standards necessary for people to live with dignity. Human rights give people the freedom to choose how they live, how they express themselves, and what kind of government they want to support, among many other things. Human rights also guarantee people the means necessary to satisfy their basic needs, such as food, housing, and education, so they can take full advantage of all opportunities. Finally, by guaranteeing life, liberty, equality, and security, human rights protect people against abuse by those who are more powerful.
SO DOES EVERYONE ENJOYS HUMAN RIGHTS?
Human rights are enjoyed by everyone in the world does not seem to be a correct statement. Even though it's absolutely necessary and critical because each and every person born in this world is ultimately entitled to their rights yet many and many of them are robbed of their even fundamental and basic rights. The really interesting and key fact about moral principles is that they have a life of their own. Not only a person is entitled to one’s rights, it's also important for him to respect the rights of others. It's necessary to have human rights to progress as a society. It’s necessary to have human rights as a doctrine as a means to pave the way for the changes we want to see in the world. Therefore it's not only important to respect human rights but also important to know about your rights. But not everyone is fortunate or blessed to enjoy even their basic rights such as: No Discrimination No slavery Equal before the law Innocent until proven guilty Right to democracy Freedom of thought, religion, culture Freedom of expression Right to education If we break only some of these rights down we can already see that these rights , even in the 21st century, are not being enjoyed universally. NO DISCRIMINATION: Even though all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights there are still many cases where all are not equal in status. Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs. This is not the case as there are numerous instances where people are still subjected to inferiority on the basis of their race, colour, religion. The BLM Movement which was triggered because of the murder of George FLoyd and due to the injustices faced by the blacks it is clear not all are equal in this world. NO SLAVERY: No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms. But slavery isn't a thing of the past, but a reality for more than 40 million people around the globe, millions of children and adults are trapped in slavery in every single country in the world. Modern slavery is the severe exploitation of other people for personal or commercial gain. Modern slavery is all around us, but often just out of sight. People can become entrapped making our clothes, serving our food, picking our crops, working in factories, or working in houses as cooks, cleaners or nannies. From the outside, it can look like a normal job. But people are being controlled – they can face violence or threats, be forced into inescapable debt, or have had their passport taken away and are being threatened with deportation. Many have fallen into this oppressive trap simply because they were trying to escape poverty or insecurity, improve their lives and support their families. EQUAL BEFORE THE LAW: All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law. All are entitled to equal protection against any discrimination in violation and against any incitement to such discrimination. But since the evolution of time it wouldn't be wrong to say that the powerful has always been more dominant and successful in the court of justice than the weak. Not each instance is like this but it still remains that even with the rising tide of technological progress and awareness many are still robbed of justice. All are equal before law but is the law equal to all of us? INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY: Everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defence. No one shall be held guilty of any penal offence on account of any act or omission which did not constitute a penal offence, under national or international law, at the time when it was committed. Even though it states that only with the presence of justified evidence can someone be proven guilty in many cases the accused is already subjected to the harm and humiliation of the crime he or she may have not committed. RIGHT TO DEMOCRACY: Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives. Everyone has the right of equal access to public service in his country but corruption and nepotism are making comebacks and inequalities of all sorts are on the rise.. It has become common that even with half of the citizen votes anti-democratic politicians get elected who fail to protect citizen’s rights. At this time it is legitimate to ask whether democracy is breaking apart. FREEDOM OF THOUGHT,RELIGION,CULTURE: Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance and of cultural and art and has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits. But in these modern times it's not as easy as it sounds. Many people around the globe are afraid to practice their own religion in the fear of being labeled as “terrorists” and these people are mainly muslims. Muslims around the world suffer greatly even being innocent because of some bad reputation of Islamic Terrorist Organizations. Paestian, Syria, Rohingya, Kashmir are some of the countries where people are suffering greatly yet no one bats an eye on their misery. FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION: Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers yet we are subjected to silence as not to raise our voice or share our opinion. RIGHT TO EDUCATION: Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit. All children have the right to go to school and learn, regardless of who they are, where they live or how much money their family has but millions around the world are robbed of these basic and fundamental rights.
CONCLUSION: This is just scratching the surface of how not everyone in this world is able to enjoy human rights even though human rights are obvious and fundamental for each and every person of this world.
