Consistent product quality
The Bühler SmartDry FOOD dryer is designed to provide a
uniform, high­quality product at the discharge. Whether
snack pellets, or DX snacks and RTE cereal, the SmartDry
FOOD consistently delivers product that meets the specific
requirements of moisture content and throughput.
Product uniformity is ensured by using a three­pass
alternating plenum up airflow configuration. Process
modules are set 180° to each other, allowing the heated air to
flow through the drying zone from both sides of the product
conveyor, providing consistent, even drying.
For extruded snack pellet applications, a pre­dryer with
optional heat coil uses an up airflow and vibratory
technology to pre­dry the product and provide non­sticky
pellets to the SmartDry FOOD product bed.

After drying, an integrated cooler uses ambient air to stop
the drying process prior to the product discharge.
Improved energy usage
Recirculated air and a managed exhaust system makes
optimal use of energy, while fully insulated and
independently­controlled process modules keep the heated
air within the dryer. High efficiency drive motors and direct
drive fans help to ensure energy costs are kept in check.
Clean, safe operation
The SmartDry FOOD features unique, food safe bedplate
style conveyors, eliminating the high­maintenance mesh
style belts. All product contact areas are constructed from
304 stainless steel for clean operation and ease of cleaning.
The dryer also features complete access to all product
contact areas to ensure cleaning effectiveness.
