About US
SD Freeze Drying, formerly Coboti, designs & delivers the latest freeze drying technology,
particularly for the nutraceuticals sector. The company was founded in 2016 by leading
technology specialists with many years of experience in the sanitary equipment industry.
Recently SD Freeze Drying became part of SiccaDania Group. Conjointly, SD can guarantee
the highest quality solutions as the technology is not only designed but also manufactured
in-house. SD Freeze Drying is capable of supplying equipment for liquid processing, pow-
der handling, bagging-off systems, automation and other industry related systems.
The primary focus at SD Freeze Drying is our customers. By putting technology and engi-
neering excellence as top priority, SD Freeze Drying is confident that the customers’ trust
will be secured through on-time and on-budget delivery of equipment meeting the re-
quired quality specifications.
SD Freeze Drying will provide service for the installation, commissioning, qualification &
validation of all equipment. In addition, maintenance, repairs and purchase of spare parts
are also granted, allowing us to maintain a long-term relationship with our customers and
continuously develop our solutions. Any part required for or by SD Freeze Drying products
are items available in stock, this way we can guarantee on time delivery for our end users
and increased overall efficiency. The quality of SD Freeze Drying’s equipment combined
with our extensive expertise in food & nutraceutical processing represent the optimal so-
lution for any customer.

Freeze Drying or Lyophilisation
Freeze drying, or lyophilisation, is a stabilization method that is widely
used in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries. Because the product is dried
without excessive heating, most of the important attributes are preserved. In contrast to
alternative methods such as spray drying where the water is evaporated, in freeze-drying
the water is sublimated. Sublimation is a transformation process of the solid phase (ice)
to gas (vapor) at temperatures below -27°C and pressures below 0.5mbar without passing
through the liquid phase.
The freeze drying process is separated into three major processes – freezing, the primary
and the secondary drying. First the product is frozen. The rate of freezing and the final
temperature to which the material is lowered both have a significant impact on the quality
of the end result. The frozen material is then dried by sublimation under a vacuum. During
primary drying the pressure of the drying chamber is reduced to a very low level, while the
temperature is raised slightly to allow the solvents to sublime. Finally, secondary drying is
a desorption process that removes any solvent that is left chemically bound in the mate-
rial after primary drying. This step is necessary for shelf preservation.
ADVANTAGES OF LYOPHILISATION
• Enhanced product stability
• Minimized chemical decomposition
• Longer shelf life
• Less product weight
• Ideal for fragile materials
• Rapid reconstitution

The FD500 Continuous freeze drying system represents the next generation of freeze dryer factories.
The modularized, optimized and perfected FD500 standard module is prepared for the automatic
loading and un-loading of trays.
FD500 CONTINUOUS
APPLICATIONS
Increasingly complex products within the nutraceutical & dietary supplements industries, re-
quest a delicate drying process. SD Freeze Drying offers a flexible and modularized freeze-
drying solution. A solution with a high degree of automation which will enable our customers
to increase the factory output capacity while reducing labor costs.
The main uses of lyophilisation include the pharmaceutical & nutraceutical sectors, where the
product shelf life can be increased. Freeze drying is also used in the food industry to preserve
and lighten the weight of the products. Interestingly, this process can also apply to very niche
areas such as the recovery of water damage in books and documents or taxidermy.
Besides the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications, we also make freeze dryers for dry-
ing instant coffee, fruits and vegetables, whole
meals and dairy products such as:
• Milk
• Cheese
• Cream
• Yogurt
• Ice cream
• Whey protein - Lactoferrin
About
SD Freeze Drying will install a FD10 freeze dryer in our Innovation Center this summer. The optimized layout of this
freeze dryer is designed to minimize footprint. Its functions will include drying probiotic bacteria, colostrum, en-
zymes and allergen extracts. The FD10 offers the highest level of hygienic design and has a build-in CIP-system. The
process automation features the best opportunities for testing, allowing the operator to monitor and document
all relevant process parameters. SiccaDania and SD Freeze Drying teams are welcoming all our customers to our
Innovation Centre to see our technology and consult our experts.
