Dead' focuses on gatherings of
family and friends to pray for

died.

women are summoned who
must wear their costume with

has to do with Halloween.

the final touch to the costume.
Throughout the parade of this
"carnival”, you can see floats,
dressed and painted for the
occasion, dancers, giant
skeleton puppets, and
Alebrijes, which are very
colorful figures of imaginary
animals.

deceased to clean them and
arrange them with flowers and
candles. In some places, it is
customary to place an offering
on the grave and spend the
night awake there with the
reunited family.

When the Spanish conquerors
arrived in America in the 15th
century, they were terrified by
the pagan practices of the
Indians, and in an attempt to
convert Native Americans to
Catholicism they moved the
festival towards dates in the
beginning of November to
coincide with the Catholic
holidays of All Saints and All
Souls Day.
