The EDTO ‘Preclude and Protect’ philosophy has


enabled the growth of EDTO Industry Standards, State
Regulations, Operations and Maximum Diversion Time
capabilities.

EDTO is an evolution of ETOPS.

Objective: At the end of this module, participants will be
able to understand the major elements of the EDTO approval
process and related requirements...

EDTO approval is a two step process which involves:


- A type design and reliability assessment of the
aeroplane/engine combination
- An assessment of the airline’s ability to conduct EDTO

understand the flight operations requirements and dispatch
planning considerations supporting EDTO operations…

The EDTO Flight Operations program is comprised of distinct


and complimentary elements:
- Route approval and dispatch planning
- Enroute operations

understand the maintenance requirements supporting EDTO
operations…

EDTO maintenance requirements apply to two engine


aeroplanes and are in addition to the basic aeroplane
maintenance program for continued airworthiness.

The focus of the EDTO maintenance program is on aeroplane


systems significant to EDTO.

understand the shared responsibilities of the relevant
stakeholders for continued surveillance of EDTO operations…

EDTO type design and operational approvals are subject


to continued surveillance requirements.

Continued Surveillance for EDTO is a shared


responsibility between Manufacturers, Operators and
Contracting States (Design, Operator, Registry).

familiar with the process and technical considerations for
implementing State EDTO regulations…

Contracting States must establish their own regulations for


EDTO including:
- Determination of EDTO threshold times
- Determination of Maximum Diversion Times
- Operational program requirements
