Mar 2022 ENG pg.t MAR-RRN Mesoamerican Reef Restoration Network Newsletter SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS IN THE MAR The MAR-RRN is pleased to announce the development of a new consultancy that aims to share the knowledge, experiences, best practices, and methodologies in reef restoration that exist in the region with the hopes of strengthening and promoting these best practices. Throughout the next 3 months our consultant will be diving deep into 4 specific restoration projects in the MAR to learn what makes them successful! In addition we will be looking to gather information about every project within the region so we can have a better understanding of what all our members are currently doing. Be on the lookout for some communications regarding this consultancy soon! Sera MESOAMERICAN REEF DAY MAR Day is celebrated every March 10 since 2007. The date of this celebration was established by the presidents of the four countries that make it up: Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras, during a meeting held on July 11, 2006 in Panama City. This meeting was held to renew the commitments from the presidents for MAR, in the framework of the Tulum Declaration, signed in 1997. How are you celebrating this year? Viewers from around the world, tuned in to watch their partners, which include some of our very own MAR-RRN members, present on their accomplishments, challenges, and plans for coral restoration for this year. SECORE staff also shared the new research, technology, and program strategies developed for 2022 SECORE is proud to partner with many of the MAR-RRN's members and to support our work as a strategic partner of the Network. Banaszak OULU Universidad Nacional Auténoma de México 8 HRI REGIONAL PARTNER MEETING From the 2ist to the 24th of February, Healthy Reefs for Healthy People hosted their Regional Partner's meeting. During this important gathering several organizations, institutions, and individuals including several of our MAR-RRN members joined together to discuss the upcoming Report Card. The event was special because, in addition to highlighting the current state of the MAR, MAR-RRN members were able to present on various projects in the region. In particular, Dr. Ania Banaszak, a former Executive Committee member, was able to showcase her important work and advances in terms of restoration in the face of Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (SCTLD). MEXICO REPRESENTATIVE ELECTION UNDERWAY Due to unforeseen events, we have had to extend our search for a National Representative for Mexico for the MAR-RRN Executive Committee.
