In groups:
You are going to choose and read a short story in groups.

There are two goals:

Make a short, visual presentation of the story that other students can look at (for this part, you
do not need to speak)
Make a trailer for a movie of your short story, showing three key scenes from the short story.
You can make this however you want, but it should be interesting or fun to watch.

We will not do either of those things today (You will receive instructions for them in the next
couple of classes.) Today, you will just read, and make notes on your story.

Stage 1:
Browse the short stories in the Week 40 Canvas module. (you might assign each group member
to read a different story and then report back).

Then, decide which short story you are going to choose for your project, and write it with your
group on the sign-up sheet.

We chose this story because the title is
interesting and when I read this story it had
some surprises and the plot was interesting
so we chose this story.
it happens on the earth in Magnolia
Vic, Alison, Enn, Stella, Triolet
It is about a couple of British 1970s teen-aged
boys, Enn and Vic, who go to a party to meet
girls, only to find that the girls are very
different from the boys' expectations.
Once again, Enn ignores his complete
inability to understand her and focuses on
putting his arm around her. Just then, Vic
interrupts and calls him over. Vic says he’s
discovered they’re at the wrong party, but that
it’s OK for them to stay. Vic and Stella go
upstairs together. When Vic heads back to
the spikey-haired girl, several other people
have taken his place.
The boys run for a long time, until Vic stops
and throws up in the gutter. He begins to sob
as he tries to explain what he’s experienced.
Enn says he still can’t imagine what Vic saw
that night that terrified him so badly. Enn tries
to remember the poem Triolet told him, but he
cannot.
Meanwhile, Enn is focused on moving his leg
closer and pressing it against hers. She
keeps talking about the poem, and Enn is
pleased that she’s touching his arm
affectionately. She touches her lips to his in
something like a kiss, then offers to share the
poem with him. She begins to whisper
something in his ear. He can’t understand the

words, but the rhythm washes over him.
