Bernard, most uncomfortable chair hoping deprecating the wrath of the higher
power
John,
Helmholtz, most luxurious chair

Mustapha Mond: "If I make the rules here, I can also break them...with
impunity."
Chapter 16 Response:

Bernard, John, and Helmholtz are called into the World Controller's chambers.
Please take notes of how each character responds to Mustapha Mond's lecture
and lesson. Which of the three characters do you find yourself being most like in
our society and in your own life? Explain in 7-10 sentences. Provide a personal
experience or observation you have the our current world that reveals a
comparison between you and one of the characters.

In my life I find myself being more like Bernard and John. Bernard is the timid type and
is scared so when he goes to speak with the world controller he chooses the most
uncomfortable chair so he isn't punished as much. I like to not risk something and not
be affected negatively. But along with this side of me I am strongly like John, I question
a lot of things and want to know why and for what reason these decisions are being
made and to what extent. A Lot of the time when my parents are getting me in trouble
for something they believe is wrong I tend to be straight forward and be like, “ why, why
would it have to be like that or be seen in that way”. I can see my mix between Bernard
and John, because I tend to have those two personalities and sometimes they blend
nicely but other times they dont clash being timid and scared and then not caring so
much and wanting answers, believing that it shouldn't have to be that way. But scared
at the same time.

Chapter 17: Mustapha Mond's reminder about Civilization (pages 237-240)

● No God
● No Art, No History, No Old Things
● No Beauty
● No Passion
● No Thinking
● Only technology
● Only civilization
● Only distraction
● Only Consumption

" 'But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry,

I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I
want sin' " (Huxley 240).
In my perfect world it would include,
● One god
● Art, history, learning about before but progression
● Beauty
● Passion
● Intellectualism
● Safe amount of technology, limited in a way
● Different civilizations and environments
● Good distractions and personal relaxation time
● Good consumption beneficial way
