Marriage is both a social as well

as religious event in India.
Different communities have their
own traditions and customs of
solemnizing a marriage. The
common aspect about all
marriages is prayer, vows to be
together in the thick and thin of
life, feast and get together of
friends and relatives including
music and dance! Well,
marriage is a union of two
families and not just two
individuals. Marriage functions
aid in bringing relatives of bride
and bridegroom together and
enjoy moments of fun and frolic
while also getting to know each
other.
Earlier, Families used to take a
month off for any wedding in the
family. They used to sit and chat
together and even cook meals.
However, people have become
more practical these days. The
main events such as catering,
decoration, music and dance
functions are generally
outsourced and all customary
functions are over within a
couple of days! Well, nowadays
people have also realized the
futility of spending too much
money on functions during
marriage and saving money has
become a priority.

Indian Wedding Ceremonies are

Legislation known for unique characteristics
inon Indian from colorful attire to customs
marriage and traditions. Traditional
wedding dress in India haven't
and family changed much over the years.
Some of the more common
styles include: the sari, ghaghra

know more about diverse
marriage traditions prevalent in
India among various religious
communities.
Influence of
marriage
and family 1. Beginning
on health
and health
“Marriage is more
practices
than a physical
union; it is also a
spiritual and
emotional union.”
Marriage is the beginning—
the beginning of the family—
and is a life-long commitment.
It also provides an opportunity
to grow in selflessness as you
serve your wife and children.
Marriage is more than a
physical union; it is also a
spiritual and emotional union.
This union mirrors the one
between God and His Church.

2. Oneness
When a man and woman get
married, the “two become
one.” Marriage is a bond like
no other. It gives us a life
partner, a teammate, as we
move through the challenges
of life together.

3. Purity
Marriage is designed for
purity. We face temptation
nearly every minute and from
all directions. The bond of
marriage gives us the support
to defeat temptation by
engaging in deep, satisfying
love—a love that gives to, and
receives from, our mate
physically, emotionally, and
spiritually.

4. Parenting
When a marriage produces a
child or receives a child
through adoption, it is one of
life’s greatest blessings.
Roughly 40% of children
being raised today are in a
home without a father. The
effects of that fact are
staggering. Father absence
causes increases in mental
and behavioral disorders as
well as criminal activity and
substance abuse. But when
children are raised in a
healthy marriage, they get a
front row seat to see and
experience the lasting
benefits of a strong family.

5. Love
Marriage is designed to mirror
our Creator’s unconditional
love for us. It’s a love that will
always be there and will never
leave us or forsake us. When
a man and woman love one
another uncondition.

mothers are less likely to have low

birth weight children than stably
cohabiting mothers or mothers
involved in a romantic relationship
with their baby’s father.  Married
28)

women have significantly fewer

abortions than unmarried women. 29)

1. Health Care

5)

time in hospitals as single

individuals.  Married individuals are
6)

also less likely to go to a nursing

home from the hospital.  Not 7)

surprisingly, marriage also affects an

individual's health.

2. Lifestyle
A lower fraction of married persons
than widowed, divorced or separated,
never-married, or cohabiting persons
have only “fair to poor
health.”  Married women rate their

health better than do divorced,

separated, widowed, and never-

smoke and binge-drink less

frequently than cohabiters.  Women 10)

who marry lessen their alcohol

whose marriages break up increase

are less likely to be alcoholic than

young adults who are not in a

Demographics

likely than married, previously
divorced adults and unmarried adults
to report that they sometimes drink
too much alcohol. According to the

adults have reported that they
sometimes drink too much alcohol,
followed by 38.5 percent of married,

survival rates after being diagnosed
with cancer, regardless of the stage
of the cancer’s progression, than do
their unmarried
counterparts.  Married persons’
14)

responses to cancer treatment are

better and are comparable to those of
people 10 years younger.  After
15)
being diagnosed with prostate
cancer, married men live
longer.  Unmarried women with
16)

breast cancer are more likely to be

diagnosed later and have higher
three-year (breast cancer-specific)
morbidity.  Similarly, a smaller ratio
17)

of married individuals die of cirrhosis

of the liver, lung cancer, tuberculosis,
and diabetes than never-married,
divorced, and widowed individuals,
controlling for age.  Married people
18)

are less likely to die after being

divorced/ separated have an 83
percent higher risk of suicide, those
who are never married have a 48

are widowed have a 41 percent
higher risk.  The longer a person’s
24)

risk, relative to that of the
unmarried.  Having children further
25)

reduces the risk of suicide. Marital

unions without children have a 33

single adults, whereas marital unions
with children experience a 48 percent
decreased risk. 26)
