1. SERVICE PRECAUTIONS
1.1 NOTES ON SOLDERING
A
• For environmental protection, lead-free solder is used on the printed circuit boards mounted in this unit.
Be sure to use lead-free solder and a soldering iron that can meet specifications for use with lead-free solders for repairs
accompanied by reworking of soldering.

• Compared with conventional eutectic solders, lead-free solders have higher melting points, by approximately 40 ºC.
Therefore, for lead-free soldering, the tip temperature of a soldering iron must be set to around 373 ºC in general, although
the temperature depends on the heat capacity of the PC board on which reworking is required and the weight of the tip of
the soldering iron.

Do NOT use a soldering iron whose tip temperature cannot be controlled.

B Compared with eutectic solders, lead-free solders have higher bond strengths but slower wetting times and higher melting
temperatures (hard to melt/easy to harden).

The following lead-free solders are available as service parts:

• Parts numbers of lead-free solder:
GYP1006 1.0 in dia.
GYP1007 0.6 in dia.
GYP1008 0.3 in dia.

1.2 WHEN RELPLACING TRAVERSE MECHA

[ Removing the Traverse Mecha ]
C
Before removing Pickup PCB and the Wire ASSY (24P), short circuit the position shown in Fig. 1 using a soldering iron.
If you remove the Wire ASSY (24P) with no soldering, the Laser may be damaged.

[ Installing the Traverse Mecha ]

Remove the soldering on the short circuit position after the connection of Pickup PCB and Wire ASSY (24P).

1.3 NOTES ON SERVICE CONTROL PCB

The initial lot of HM11 None DAB model (approximately 7800 units in all destination) has been applied earth cord instead of
earth plate for a measure against electrostatic discharge. This has been changed as running change in production. A
For diagnosis or removal, refer to the following shown below.
All stocks of parts are new parts, however, it is not necessary to additionally attach the earth plate when an old part is
replaced with a new part only for initial lot of HM11 None DAB model.
(For the product for which earth plate has been attached, it is necessary to attach the earth plate.)

Measure against electrostatic discharge = measure against ESD

5.2 HOW TO EVALUATE LD DETERIORATION OF PICKUP ASSY

If CD cannot be played, LD of pickup ASSY may be deteriorated.
A
Carry out the evaluation in the following procedure.
Evaluate the waveform of CN8 8 pin (refer to the photo) of SERVICE MAIN PCB.
RF level : 1.0V(+/-0.25V)
If the value is 0.75V or less, 780-nm LD is deteriorated.

If LD is deteriorated based on the evaluation result,

replace Traverse Mecha with a new one.
B

Measure the voltage value between R129 and L73(3.3V) of SERVICE

MAIN PCB shown in the figure below.
If the value is 0.4V or more, 780-nm LD is deteriorated.
