Office of the Governor

State of Arizona
Attn: The Honorable Governor Doug Ducey
1700 W. Washington St.
Phoenix, AZ 15007

Governor Ducey,

After a hateful attack in Buffalo took the lives of ten people and terrorized communites across the nation,
State Sen. Wendy Rogers continued her trend of spouting divisive and inflammatory rhetoric. By
suggesting the deadliest mass shooting in the United States this year was part of an underground federal
conspiracy, Sen. Rogers is fanning the flames of a nonsense white nationalist theory that only harms
communities of color. Not only is it cruel and hateful, it’s dangerous for people of color in our state.

Activate 48, a people-powered coalition led by the undersigned — LUCHA; Mi Familia Vota; Our
Voice, Our Vote Arizona; and Chispa Arizona — is calling on you to oppose State Sen. Rogers’
re-election bid and ask her to resign. We are proud to represent Arizona’s growing and vibrant
communities of color, and we believe you have a responsibility to be a leader for all of us — that means
holding her accountable for this racist behavior.

The Arizona Senate ethics investigation will likely be dismissed like past complaints against her. These
types of investigations are distractions from real consequences Sen. Rogers must face. She has
repeatedly aligned herself with an ideology that asserts anti-semitism, ethnocentrism, and extremism. She
is a self-proclaimed member of the Oath Keepers and has echoed a dangerous “great replacement”
conspiracy theory that is partly responsible for claiming ten lives in Buffalo.

Governor, you spent nearly $500,000 to elect Sen. Rogers in 2020 and have stood by your support. Do
you agree with the messages Sen. Rogers is sending Arizona's children? Are you condoning the way she
is promoting hate and endangering the people of color in Arizona?

As the chief executive of our state, you must condemn her behavior, oppose her re-election bid and ask
her to resign. Our responsibility as a coalition of civic organizations led by people of color is to say
enough is enough — white supremacy has no place in our politics and racist ideologues should never
hold elected office. Your responsibility as Governor is to ensure Sen. Rogers cannot be allowed to
propagate hate against a majority of Arizona’s constituents.

Governor Ducey, you cannot continue to stand by her side. Please do the right thing.

Respectfully,
Laura Dent, Activate 48
