ASSIGNMENT 2

LAND USE PATTERN ANALYSIS REPORT - ASSESSMENT

1. KESHAV - Haryana

(NOTE: Submitted 2 days early)

- Properly notes in introduction what the rest of the paper will study and analyse.
- Discusses years 1966-69 , 1990-93, 1995-98, 2002-05 and 2010-13
- Tables containing Statistics of these years are added and studies statistics of area
under forest, under non-agricultural uses, under miscellaneous tree crops, cultivable
waste land, area under non agricultural uses, barren and uncultivated land.
- The reasons for the increase and decrease of these numbers are given in brief in
some cases but lack thorough analysis of possible reasons for these numbers.
- Concludes that :
1. area under non-agricultural uses has increased in great proportion due to
urbanization and industrialization.
2. The proportion of net sown area in the state has also marginally declined from
82.12 percent in 1995- 98 to 80.16 percent in 2002-05.
3. Barren and uncultivated land, land used for grazing and as permanent
pasture and cultivable land have all decreased over the study period 1966 to
2013.
4. Land under miscellaneous tree crops and groves is almost non-existent in the
state.

- Introduction does not give an idea of what we are hoping to study and analyse
through these statistics and does not tell us which years we are focusing on to
draw a conclusion
- Tables of Statistics with regards to forest cover, net sown and gross cropped area,
uncultivable land, operational land holding, fallow land are provided.
- The reasons for increase and decrease of these numbers are provided for.
- Concludes that:
1. Land put into non-agricultural uses saw an increase due to increase in
industrialization and urbanization
2. The growth of net area sown less than the growth of area under
non-agricultural uses in all districts of Madhya Pradesh
3. Barren,uncultivated land show negative trend, but positive increase in case of
current fallow due to rainfall patterns
4. Realises that new policies should be enforced in the state to ensure land is
not converted for non-agricultural purposes.
3. Geetha - Uttar Pradesh

- Gives general understanding of Land use, but does not specify what years are being
studied to draw a conclusion.
- Thoroughly studies and analyses the utilisation of agricultural land in the state,
stating the importance of land being available for agricultural use and states
the reasons for the same.
- Concludes that :
1. UP utilizes its land fairly well, steering more for agriculture while also ensuring
sufficient land for industrialization and development, it gets offset by low forest
area.
2. Suggests that new reforestation policies must be in place and that the state
government should focus on converting industrial land to agricultural land.
- Conclusion too short

4. Sushma - Bihar

- Offers statistics of various years and studies them and suggests possible
reasons for their increase/decrease.
- Concludes :
1. that shifting of land to non-agricultural use and declining net sown area are of
greater concern for food and nutritional security of the state as well as the
nation as a whole.
2. Current fallow land escalation - provides reasons for the same
Identifies that Net sown area reducing for the whole state may be due to the
increase in area under non-agricultural uses
3. Notes that the pressure of increasing population has led to the shift from
agricultural cropped land toward non agricultural uses.
