1.Rationale:

India is expected to be the World s Third largest Automotive market in terms of


Volume by 2026. The Automobile Industry of India , currently manufactures 22.7 mm
vehicles including Passemger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles ,Three wheelers , Two
wheelers and quadricycles in April – March 2020 , of which 4.1 mm are exported . India
holds a strong position in the international heavy vehicles as it is the largest tractor
manufacturer,second largest bus manufacturer and third largest heavy truks
manufacturer in the world.

2.To know about different models of various manufacturers in India.

INTRODUCTION
AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY IN INDIA

The automotive industry is the FOURTH LARGEST in the world as per 2021 statistics In
2022, India became fourth largest country in the world by valuation of automotive
industry. As of 2020, India is the 5th largest automobile market in the world, surpassing
Germany in terms of sales Currently India's auto industry is worth of more that US$
100 billion and contributes 8% of the country's total export and accounts for 2.3% of
India's GDP .India's major automobile manufacturing companies includes Tata Motors ,
Ashok Leyland, MAHINDRA & MAHINDRA, FORCE MOTORS, TRACTORS AND FARM
EQUIPMENT LIMITED, EICHER MOTORS, ROYAL ENFIELD, SONALIKA
TRACTORS, HINDUSTAN MOTORS, HRADYESH, ICML, KERALA AUTOMOBILES LIMITED,
REVA, PRAVAIG DYNAMICS, PREMIER, TARA INTERNATIONAL and VEHICLE FACTORY
JABALPUR.

THE MAJORITY OF INDIA'S CAR MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY IS EVENLY DIVIDED INTO THREE
"CLUSTERS". AROUND Chennai IS THE SOUTHERNMOST AND LARGEST, WITH A
35% REVENUE SHARE, ACCOUNTING FOR 60% OF THE COUNTRY'S AUTOMOTIVE
EXPORTS, AND HOME OF THE OPERATIONS OF Heavy Vehicles Factory, ENGINE
FACTORY AVADI, Ford, Hyundai, Renault, Mitsubishi, Nissan, BMW, Hindustan
Motors, Daimler, Caparo, Mini, Citroën AND Datsun NEAR Mumbai, Maharashtra,
ALONG THE Chakan CORRIDOR NEAR Pune, IS THE WESTERN CLUSTER, WITH A 33%
SHARE OF THE MARKET. Audi, Volkswagen, AND Škoda ARE LOCATED

CAR MANUFACTURER, MARUTI SUZUKI, IS BASED.AN EMERGING CLUSTER IS THE
STATE OF GUJARAT, WITH A MANUFACTURING FACILITY OF MG
MOTORS IN HALOL, ATUL AUTO IN RAJKOT, FORD, OCULUS AUTO
IN SABARKANTHA,[25] MARUTI SUZUKI, AND PEUGEOT-CITROËN PLANTS ARE ALSO
PLANNED FOR GUJARAT.

manufacturing plant in Chennai, a parts warehouse in Mumbai, a training centre in

HYUNDAI MOTORS INDIA
Hyundai Motor India Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the HYUNDAI MOTOR
COMPANY headquartered in South Korea. It is the second largest automobile
manufacturer with 16.2% market share as of February 2019 and US$5.5 billion turn-
over in India . Hyundai Motor India Limited was formed on 6 May 1996 by the
HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY of SOUTH KOREA. When Hyundai Motor Company
entered the INDIAN AUTOMOBILE MARKET in 1996 the Hyundai brand was almost
unknown throughout India. During the entry of Hyundai in 1996, there were only
five major automobile manufacturers in India
i.e. MARUTI, HINDUSTAN, PREMIER, TATA and MAHINDRA. DAEWOO had entered
the Indian automobile market with CIELO just three years back while
FORD, OPEL and HONDA had entered less than a year back.

HONDA CARS INDIA
Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) is an automobile manufacturer in India owned by
Honda Cars company The company was established in 1995 as a joint venture
called Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI). The company was renamed to HCIL in
September 2012 following the sale of 3.16 percent stake owned by Usha
International, making it a 100 percent subsidiary of Honda Motor Co. Ltd HCIL's
first manufacturing plant at Greater Noida began operations in 1997. Set up at an
initial investment of over ₹4.5 billion, the plant is spread over 150 acres (0.61
km2). The initial capacity of the plant was 30,000 cars per year, which was later
increased to 50,000 cars on a two-shift basis Honda set up its second plant in India
at Tapukara in ALWAR DISTRICT of RAJASTHAN spread over 450 acres (1.8 km2)
with an investment of ₹3526 crores. It operates under the ISO 9001 standard for
quality management and ISO 14001 for environment management

SKODA AUTO
Skoda Auto often shortened to Skoda, is a Czech AUTOMOBILE manufacturer
established in 1925 as the successor to LAURIN & KLEMENT and headquartered in
MLADABOLESLAV, CZECHIA. SKODAWORKS became STATE OWNED in 1948. After
1991, it had been gradually PRIVATIZED to the GERMAN VOLKSWAGEN GROUP,
becoming a SUBSIDIARY in 1994 and since 2000 a wholly owned subsidiary. Skoda
automobiles are sold in over 100 countries and in 2018, total global sales reached 1.25
million units, an increase of 4.4% from the previous year The operating profit was
€1.6 billion in 2017, an increase of 34.6% over the previous year. As of 2017, Skoda's
profit margin was the second highest of all VOLKSWAGEN AG brands after PORSCHE.

MARUTI SUZUKI
Maruti Udyog Limited, is an Indian AUTOMOBILE manufacturer, based in NEW DELHI.
It was founded in 1981 and owned by the GOVERNMENT OF INDIA until 2003, when it
was sold to the JAPANESE automaker SUZUKI MOTOR CORPORATION As of February
2022 Maruti Suzuki has a market share of 44.2 percent in the Indian passenger car
market Maruti Udyog Limited was founded by the GOVERNMENT OF INDIA on 24 Jan
1981 with Suzuki Motor Corporation as a minor partner, only to become the formal JV
partner and license holder of Suzuki in August 2021 The first manufacturing factory of
Maruti was established in Gurugram, Haryana, in the same year.
