want you to observe each video to
determine what festival is being presented.

being presented will shout “Viva” and paste
the corresponding festival in front with

- The highlight of the two-week long
festival is the Subli dance, a worship
dance of the Holy Cross.

It is a very long celebration of fiesta.

Tagalog word, which means falling on

is all about Ati-atihan Festival. The Ati-
atihan festival is very lively, colorful and it is
a weeklong fiesta. It is known as the mother
of all festivals in the Philippines. It is a feast
held annually in honor of Sto. Nino in the
island of Kalibo, Aklan. The celebration
begins in the 3rd week of January.

Is there anyone who knows the - Ma’am the meaning of Ati-atihan is “to
meaning of Ati-atihan? be like aetas”.

That’s right! The meaning of Ati-

atihan is “to be like aetas” or “make believe
in atis”.

Ati-atihan is a celebration of pact

between Spaniards and Aetas. Do you

bountiful harvest. It is held every 3rd
week of August in Davao City. It is
called as the “King of all Festivals in
the Philippines”.

- Its name derives from the

friendly greeting "Madayaw.

Davao and it came from the word “
madayaw”, a friendly greeting of
Davaoenios.
- This ritual serves as their
thanksgiving to the Gods particularly
to the "Manama" (the Supreme Being)
and “Bulan” (a moon deity).

God. So they honor Manama the
supreme being and Bulan the moon God.

The Ibalong Festival celebrates the

epic story of the town of Ibalong with
threelegendary heroes, namely Baltog,
Handyong, Bantong and other ancient
heroes.

as the tandayag (giantboar), dambuhala (one-
eyed monster), oryol (half-woman, half-
serpent), and a giant called Rabot.

Ibalong Festival of Legazpi City has

no official schedule as of this writing, but it
is tentatively slated from August 3 – 30.

and Bantong.

- The festival is characterized by a very

long parade with many groups of
people dressed in colourful
costumes, finding their way through
the streets while dancing the Sinulog.

- This Sinulog dance is now the

traditional ritual dance in honor of
Santo Niño. The dance is accompanied

- The "Moriones" are men and women
in costumes and masks replicating the
garb of biblical Roman soldiers as
interpreted by local folks.

When we say mercenaries it means - The participants use morion masks

soldier. to depict the Roman soldiers and
Syrian mercenaries within the story
of the Passion of the Christ.

- The Moriones refers to the masked and

costumed penitents who march around
the town for seven days searching for
Saint Longinus.

- They celebrate Moriones Festival every

Holy week in Marinduque.

That’s right! St. Longinus is a

Roman centurion who was blind in one eye.
He struck Jesus Christ in the body, and then
the blood of Jesus Christ dropped to his eyes
and magically healed his blind eyes.
Afterwards, he believed in Jesus Christ and
developed his faith to God. And then he
became a Saint.

Again, when and where does the - Ma’am they celebrate Moriones
celebration of Moriones Festival being held? Festival every Holy week in
Marinduque.
