1. The Capstone is a unique and demanding challenge.

In completing it,
what did you learn about your subject? Your skill set? Yourself?

I learned that to be a good teacher, I need adequate lesson preparation, interesting

class speeches and more interaction with students to make the course more
interesting.

I learned to use Canva to make interesting PPT, make posters and exercises, and
make questionnaires with Google documents.

I am a good communicator, and I can express my thoughts and achieve my goals in

a way acceptable to others.

2. How is your project relevant to you, the school or the community-at-large?

Help people in the community who want to learn Chinese as a second language.

3. How did you demonstrate the six Core Competencies throughout this
project? (See attached Core Competency sheet)
- Self-Determination
I will arrange the time, discuss with my colleagues what to talk about next week,
make time every weekend to prepare lessons, and be on time for class every week.
- Building relationship
While working as a Mandarin tutor, I made lots of friends. We discussed problems,
worked on courseware and taught classes together, and I enjoyed the time.
- Develop and Design
I have learned how to use Canva making impressive PPT. I also have the first tome
to create an exam and make it as a link for students to do. I have discussed with
other teachers what can be improved after each class and make a improvement for
next class.
- Generating Ideas
I will record and summarize the issues and results discussed at each workshop, and
propose new considerations and solutions.
- Relationships and Cultural Identity
I met some people from other countries and got in touch with some other cultures. I
became a team member with people from other countries and worked on a project
together. My receptivity and way of thinking have also become more and more
diverse.
- Collaborate to plan, carry out , and review.
I became the secretary of the Chinese group, and I needed to record the content of
each meeting and send it to everyone after the meeting. At the same time, I will also
plan the teaching content of the advanced class every week and arrange everyone's
work tasks after consulting with other teachers.

4. What impact if any did your Capstone project have?

My project has helped students who want to learn Chinese, and through this project, I
have also developed some ways to learn a second foreign language. This not only
makes me know more about teaching, but also helps me to learn English.

5. Thinking about the whole process and your finished product, what are you
most proud of?

I'm proud to see that the Chinese level of the students I have taught is getting better
and better.

6. What was a difficulty you encountered and how did you solve the
problem?
I encountered difficulties in teaching, and the students did not actively answer
questions when asking questions. Although they knew the answer, I guessed that it
was because they were afraid of making mistakes, so I praised them for their
courage to try when they said wrong, and let everyone applaud him when they
answered correctly. At the same time, I also used one class to help them practice
speaking.

7. What is one thing about your finished project you wish you could change?
Why?

I hope that I can have more colleagues to teach a class with me, because the other
two teachers I work with are often very busy and do not come to class, which leads to
my heavy workload and the quality of lesson preparation is not very good. Students
also want to listen to different teachers, and different teaching styles will make
students more interested.

8. What advice would you give to a student who will be completing their
Capstone Project next year?

I suggest that students who are not sure can participate in volunteer activities, which
is not only to serve the community, but also help them find the direction they want to
start and plan. Don't procrastinate, because time is really limited.
9. What source from your research helped you the most? (or least?).

Online teaching videos are the most helpful to me, because I can not only learn how
other senior teachers attend classes, but also learn from their PPT design. In
addition, you can help me get some inspiration when I don't know what to say.

10. What is one thing about your approach to your project that you wish you
could change? Why?

I think face-to-face delivery will work better. Because during the epidemic, we all
teach in zoom, which leads to the laziness of some students and teachers, which is a
sign of disrespect. This will affect the atmosphere of the class and make the students
who listen carefully and the teachers who prepare for the class lazy.
