Activity 1. Answer the following questions. (3 points each)

1. What are the distinct features of the art forms of East Asian countries such as
Japan, China and Korea? What is the characteristics of Zhou art in China?
 East Asian Arts, the Visual arts, performing arts, and music of china, Korea
(north Korea and south Korea), and Japan. The literature of this region is
treated in separate articles on Chinese literature, Korean literature, and
Japanese literature. During the era of Bronze age, the Zhou Dynasty
maintained much of the ancient art of china including the bronze casting of
ceremonial vessels, and jade carving and encouraged the growth of a new
visual art like goldsmithing and lacquerware, as well as calligraphy and it
cousin Chinese painting.
2. What is the significance of Ajanta in India as far as painting is concerned?
 The Anta cave is were burrow as a part of the first wave of cave
architecture in India. It become an important center for Buddhist religion
and art under the enlightened patronage. Ajanta is a unique cave as it has
paintings surviving dated back to the 1st century BCE.
3. How would you describe Hindu art? How is it different from Buddhist art?
 For me, Hindu Art is simply represents a plurality of beliefs and has deeply
influenced the painting, sculpture, and architecture of the Indian
subcontinent. Hindu Art and Buddhist Art is very similar in the culture that
they represent. The major factor that separates the two is Buddha not the
part in the Hindu.
4. Who are the Mongols? What were their contributions to Islamic Art?
 The Mongols are an East Asian ethnic group native to Mongolia, inner
Mongolia in china and the Buryatia of the Russian federation. The Mongols
are the principal member of the large family of Mongolic peoples. In Islamic
world, the Mongol empire changed after converting to Islam that helped to
bring unity to their empire. Mongols made Persian and to some extent
Turkish as their language and rebuilt and reunite cities they destroyed.
5. Why was Timur considered an important artist in his time?
 Timur is considered a great patron of art and architecture, as he interacted
with intellectuals such as lbn khaldu and Hapiz-I Abru. Also, Timur
envisioned the restoration of the Mongol empire of Genghis Khan (died
1227) and according to Gerard Chaliand, saw himself as Genghi’s Khan’s
heir.

Based on the distinctive features of Near East Asian arts and East Asian arts, capture a
picture of any object from your home that you think is influenced by these form of arts and
explain why. (10 points)

I consider this as one of the East Asian Arts because it is a sculpture where I think
was made in china or maybe Philippines. Some sculpture art is plain and simple and
some are colorful and made in a complex process or based on a culture. As Far as I
know, sculptures are three dimensional works of art made form materials like
stone, metal, ceramics and wood, and this East Asian sculpture art is an example of
made of stone.
