Group Task--Unit 15 Comparison of Strength of Alkalis

8th February, 2021

Task 1:
Suggest as many methods as possible on how you can show that NaOH(aq) is a stronger
alkali than NH3(aq) through an experiment.

- One of the methods has to be comparison of difference in observations.

- Apart from direct measurements, think about one reaction and compare their
difference in observations.
- Follow the format done last week (variable table, brief procedures, results, brief
explanation with particle diagram)
- I.e. the IV should be the same among all experimental methods; but the DV differ
- Google doc/ PowerPoint slides

Notes:
● Construct a table to compare the experiment results.
● Make screen capture of the particle diagrams (check the following website)

Task 2:

Textbook MC Questions 12-13 (P.67)

Question(s) your group wants to ask after doing the investigation.

1. Do we need a control setup for this experiment? If we do, what is the concentration of
acid supposed to be?
2. How many test tubes with different water volumes do we have to test for in the
experiment to have a large enough data size? For each of the test tubes, how much
volume of water should we add?
