A manager should use his time in an efficient way. He should cut out all activities that
do not contribute to the carrying out of his managerial tasks. In order to be aware of how he
spends his time, he could resort to recording his activity all over the day, which is called
logging time. Based on time logging, he can realize what can be left out. A manager should
have a clear idea of priorities. A list of tasks in the order of their importance could be a useful
device. He should concentrate on the most important tasks first, and avoid time-consuming
and unproductive ways of doing things. A good manager will delegate the tasks he cannot
afford the time to handle himself and in this way he will be able to meet deadlines even if this
means others have been involved in setting matters. Among the things he can give up is
writing long memos. He can handle matters faster by making phone calls. He can also turn
down requests to join committees, give interviews, contribute articles to magazines and so on.
In this way he could make an efficient use of his time.
