This past week I found a Lydia Rodgers, widowed, born in Virginia, age 57, living in
Penfield, Lorain County, Ohio with George and Margaret White in the 1880 Census.
The death index at the Lorain County Probate Court shows a "Lady" Rogers, age 70 years, 9
months and 29 days died in Penfield, Lorain County, Ohio on 17 July, 1891. The death was
reported by R. W. Wilson.
At the Wellington, Herrick Library I found in the Wellington Enterprise of Wednesday 15
July, 1891 under Penfield:
The sick list includes .......Mrs. Rogers............
The same paper on Wednesday 22 July, 1891 under Penfield:
Death has again invaded our town and called one more from earth. Mrs. Rogers, mother of
Mrs. H. Lewis died on Friday last and was buried on Saturday.
I believe this proves conclusively that Lydia Rodgers/Rogers is the mother of Amanda
Elizabeth Rogers Lewis.
