Dna q/a worksheet 1:

● nucleus

● Chromosomes

● A gene codes for RNA, Protein.

● The genome is the complete set of the DNA.

● Four different monomers called nucleotides

● each of them consists of three main parts such as :- nitrogenous bases , 5

carbon deoxyribose sugar and phosphate attached to it

● when the two strands bond together they automatically twist into a spiral
known as double helix
● There are chemical cross-links between the two strands in DNA, formed by
pairs of bases. They always pair up in a particular way, called
2

complementary base pairing: thymine pairs with adenine (T–A) guanine

pairs with cytosine (G–C).
● this pairing is known as complementary base pairing
● A sequence of three bases is known as triplet or the codon
● the three bases code for amino acid .
● The base sequence determines the amino acid sequence in protein.
Messenger RNA (mRNA) is a molecule which carries a copy of the code
from the DNA, in the nucleus, to a ribosome, where the protein is
assembled from amino acids.
